old and new brake fluid, bad idea?
I need to top up the brake fluid, do you think it would be ok to put a small amount of new fluid in or should I bleed and refill the whole system with new stuff?

Guess it depends how much you need to top up and how long the orginal has been in there. Brake fluid will take on air and water gradually throughout it's lifetime. I'm unsure the manufacturers recommended change levels, but I'd change it once a year anyway, and maybe now, just before Winter, would be a good time anyway.
Similar to if you had to top up your oil or drain and refill - which is best? |
hmm I see what ya saying. It it just on the min level so I think I will top up for now cause the service is due soon.
Thanks. |
Have you checked pads, as brake fluid unless a leak should not need topping up only changing due to moisture absorption which can be checked.

I think its every 2 years on the service schedule, but they do a check on the amount of water absorbed, so may leave it longer if all is ok. To be on the minimum mark sounds like quiet a loss, would have thought it would need more than pad wear to get it down that low....
