how do i clean Rain-X off my screen?
 

sorry if this is in the wrong place mods, feel free to move it:) just couldn't think where to put it:confused:

anyways, how do i get this **** off of my windscreen?
thought i'd give it a go as it sounded pretty good, but after putting it on all i'm getting is smears on the screen, kinda looks like polish does before you buff it off if that makes sense?

probably i'm not putting enough elbow grease into buffing it off and the residue is left? but i've tried bloody hard to buff of and no joy, so i thought i'd just get it off and start again.

this is the prob, i just can't get it off. i've tried meths,acetone:eek:,washing up liquid,glass poilsh, glass cleaner etc and it's still there :mad:

anyone know what will clean this stuff off as i really can't see fcuk all if it's raining at night:(

Try newspaper and vinegar.
Getting Rain-x on correctly is the key, but is well worth it :D

ah, knew about the newspaper trick but hadn't thought about something like vinegar! will give that a bash.

agreed, quite happy with how it repells rain off the screen (although i don't think it does a better job than the autoglym glass polish IMHO) it's just that i REALLY can't see bugger all at night time.

I use the AG stuff too, but it ain't got nothing on Rain-x. :D

I use PIAA silicon wiper blades, little bit more expensive than normals and rain-x but it is permanent with no re applying. So far they have lasted over 12 months with no hassle and it is the same as having rain x.

this will be the next thing i try, was tossing up between rainx and the piaa wipers and it was only coz halfords sold it, that i went for the rainx.

A few mates have taken up the suggestion and have been impressed with the results.

Just make sure that the screen is properly clean before starting as you will have nothing but problems with smearing, mate did this cos he thought that reading instructions was for babies :D:D

I use the PIAA's too but the stuff you put on the glass is very similar to Rain-x.
Thats where the beading comes from - not the wipers. I fitted some PIAA's to my old mans car without applying the stuff and after 8 months they are no better than std wipers except i'm sure they'll last longer without the judder. Trust me :)

I use PIAA and rain-X and the end result is excellent. Make sure you use a good glass cleaner before applying the rain-x and don't fit the new blades until you've done the rain-X. Best bet it to use a one of those abrasive plasic cleaning pads from your kitchen before you use the glass cleaner for the best result.

I did a little experiment with one of those sponges with an abrasive side on my old windscreen (due to be replaced the next day) and it scraped it. (Great for getting flys off though ;) )

Properly applied RainX is the key. I always make sure the screen is spotless and run through the directions. I then apply it a second time making sure that I get every last smear off the screen with a paper towel. It works brilliantly and I never have to use my wipers in the rain above speeds of 35-40.
