ECU/chip confusion ???????????

Hi All,

They say too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing. I'm currently suffering another batch of information overload.

I have a 1993 WRX with induction kit and 2/3rds exhaust.

Basically I want to keep the motor healthy by enabling it to run on whatever fuel I can get hold of. Common opinion seems to be Optimax with octane booster.

I also stumbled upon threads regarding ecu/chip mods to run on standard 95 Ron or even Optimax without the octane booster.

What I want is the simplest ecu/chip mod needed to enable me to run on whatever fuel I can get at the time ? I will if possible use optimax, but if needed, want to be able to use 95 Ron without melting my engine.

Lots of buzzwords (Scoobyecu, Apexi, VOS etc etc) are available in the search mode, but the evidence is sometimes contradictory.

So, to recap which plug and play chip mod should I be looking for to run my car on any unleaded? and will I need to get it checked out at a specialst to confirm its doing what it should ?

Cheers

ScoobyECU is mapped for SUL / Optimax and is the cheapest option. Hard to get hold of one though!

Apexi is a bit more advanced and a bit more pricey and would be good if you have more mods, ie turbo etc.

Dont know much about the VOS.

Thanks for the reply.

If I was to get hold of a Scoobyecu. Would it be just a case of plug and play everybody's happy.

or will I need a RR/setup session even with one. ?

Cheers

Plug and play with the mods you have. If you go beyond breathing mods you will need a remap of some sort. I had one when I had a WRX and it transformed it :)

Anyone else have a view?
