GPRS laser/radar detectors: definitive answer required pls....

Are there any radar/laser detectors that actually pick up mobile safety vans before it too late?

I was thinking of buying an Origin B2 then found out they dont pick up the mobile laser units until its too late as far as I can make out, same for the new Road Angel. So, I then thought about getting and LT400 plus a GPRS detector but thats a bit more than I wanted to spend really.

But then, having seen an add for the Snooper S6-R/LD Neo, that looks like it picks them up but yet doesnt have the range of the B2????

Arrgh... confusion

Can anyone clear this up once and for all please?

Thanks

J :)

A laser detectors detects the camera after it targets you - it takes 0.3 of a sec to aquire and record your speed so its too late to brake.
You have to be lucky and be in a stream of cars and catch a refected or the bypassing beam from a car in front etc.
No chance if you are ahead of a speeding xj8 and motoring like I was - detector went off but too Kin late!!
A laser jammer works but is illegal.
The GPS ones tell you where they are most likely to be
also look up the camera partnership webb sites like this one. http://www.suffolksafecam.co.uk/

good luck!!

Laser Jammer would be the thing to fit.

I'd buy a B2 if i were you. The LT400/450 seems like a good investment as well.

I was thinking of the B2 and LT400 combination but as Im having to shell out for a cat1 alarm/immobiliser and a tracker, I wasnt really wanting to spend another £600+ on top for a radar detector as well :(

The one thing I will say is that the government are currently very keen to get radar and laser detectors banned. They will not be banning GPS systems as they want to use a similar system as part of their "Intelligent Speed Adaptation" which will remotely control your car.

Laser detectors are not very effective as usually by the time they have activated you have been done. Laser jammers can be effective but police seem to be taking a much more active role in hunting down users and putting pressure on them. I would refer you to post #22 in this thread:

You must consider that as this person has now been arrested they can't get into the USA without a full visa, for example, so this is not a trivial matter.

It may be more effective for motorist to fight the fundamental root of this problem rather than just dealing with the symptoms and with a general election on the horizon there is no better time to put pressure on your local representitives. You may also care to join an organisation such as the ABD on www.abd.org.uk

answer

I have twice been "lasered" doing a definate (GPS tracking device fitted) 15mph over the limit... radar went off and I braked hard instantly and havent had an NIP... it takes 0.3 econds to aquire at best, bt can take slightly longer......

Jammer is the best bet, they def work!!! ;)
