Idle problem

I have a UK MY99 Turbo, had it for a few years. It's always run fine with no problems. Just recently however when I take it out cold, drive it for a few miles so it's not quite up to temperature and stop in traffic it idles very eratically i.e wavers between 900 and 200 rpm up and down up and down....
Once it is up to temperature it stops doing it and maintains a steady idle around 850-900 rpm.

What could be causing this sudden change in behaviour when it's cold?. The scoob is garaged at night and it's not particularly cold at the moment so do I need to get this sorted before the icy weather sets in?

It had a full service about 3 months ago and has done 69,000 miles.
Any help would be much appraciated on this.

Sounds like another MAF or Lambda problem, do a search loads of info :D
Also check your ECU http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....iag%20Page.htm

Mine was doing exact same thing, had the MAF replaced last week, tip top now.. get it checked quick, dodgy MAF = engine goes pop !!
£69 + vat at your local Subaru dealer (£200+ if you have the unit which has to have the housing replaced and not just the inner).

ok I have checked the ECU and it is displaying no errors so where do a go from here?

Could the MAF still be faulty if the ECU is not reporting any error codes? I'm a bit worried somethings going to go pop after hearing all the horror stories.

Just replaced mine 2nd time around at 62000 miles, have the same car MY99, no reported errors from ecu but after fitting PPP ecu upgrade, idle was all over the place, MAF cured it. £70.00 is cheap when you way up the cost of an engine rebuild, drive off boost until it's replaced.

Ok thank you I'll go and buy a new MAF tomorrow and see what happens....
