Hi, new here, drivetrain tech info required please...

Hello all, hoping ive posted this in the right section, move if not.

Im after info on the drivetrain fitted to the impreza, gearbox and backwards. Im actually looking for options as to what 4wd setup i can graft to a fwd car (gonna be a very looooong project id say) with the aim of harnessing 300+ horses and actually achieving some traction.

What id like is to find out drive type,
AWD or 4WD part time?
F/R torque split?
Mechanical F/R diff or viscous coupling?
Have F & R diffs got LSD?
How do they vary from model to model?

Above would be in reference to old shape impreza not new model as i believe the newer type is variable ECU controlled drive system?

Also any pics of underside setup of the Impreza would be ace, or links to pics or tech articles.

Thanks in advance, Jamie.

Jamie, almost everything you need and have asked for is in the Impreza manual published by Haynes Manuals, available through Halfords Super Stores.
Pictures, data, model type etc.

good luck with the project!

And welcome to the wacky world of Scoobys.

Ta for the reply.

Dont really wanna go out and spunk £17 on a haynes manual for a car i dont own though, in case the drive system is not gonna be what im after. The main thing is whether its gonna be viable in terms of linking it up to the engine and rest of car. Dont mind if i have to spin my engine round 90degrees to face the right way either.

Also looking at EVO 4wd systems too, may be easier as theirs is a transverse mounted engine setup.

Ill see if i cant borrow an impreza haynes manual from somewhere.
