MPG equation
Hi does any body know the equation for working out the MPG on a vehicle
I know it involves milage and fuel purchased but cant remember the exact equation Many thanks Gossy |
miles done divided by gallons used.
Convert litres to gallons by dividing litres by 4.545454 |
I tend to cheat and use this handly little mpg util ... mainly coz I'm lazy :D
|
Or, if you're lazy, plug the number of miles/litres into an MPG Calc. :)
EDIT - Mikkk, you must've read my mind. :) |
Interesting. I'm getting 25mpg on normal roads (mainly non-motorway) while driving pretty much like a granny but with the odd boost.

This is why ScoobyNet is great: got a problem, ask a question, get some answers & friendly banter on the side to brighten your day :thumb: |

2004 STI :
Just checked my first tank of optimax after running in - varied motoring with 50% slow runs to work constant 40,50 mph (not stop/start) and 30% a couple of fast back road sessions the rest about town. result 20MPG - not overly impressed, was banking on all the steady restained sessions evening up the balance a bit.. what ever car I have had before (Volvo T4 - average 32!) have always been able to get good consumption when driven carefully - this seems to drink it what ever and absolutely binges like a larger lass when blasting. |
03WRX - filled up about 2 minutes after getting the red light, and put exactly 50 litres in.
I had a little excel sheet to calculate MPG and (mainly) monthly petrol costs. Did it for about 6 months to get a good picture, then stopped. Usually averaged around 23-28mpg. That was a year ago, should probably feed in the new petrol prices to see how much my bill has gone up. |
Though if Gossy had asked me, he would've got the same answers in the office at which he works

First tank on STI Optimax - 20mpg, second tank including 140 at 70 on motorway 22mpg - Just hoping she is running rich until the first service but at this rate aren't going to get much more than 220 miles on a tank. |
Miles travelled divided by no of litres used multiplied by 4.54 = MPG

I've managed (albeit driving like a nervous nun) to squeeze 29mpg out of my MY03 STi Type UK on a nice long run from Bristol to Stoke and back (~260 miles). You can get reasonable MPG figures, you just have to accept the fact that the more you play with the 'fun' pedal the more the ride will cost
I moved to a Scoob from a classic range rover (3.5 v8 EFi) which when 'cruising' on the motorway at a respectable 75mph could deliver a soul shattering 13mpg. So from my point of view the Scoob is very good on fuel consumption and smiles per mile :D |
