standard VHS to dvd conversion

I need to transfer some standard VHS tapes to a digital format. i have no problems with the actual conversion process but i need to know what i will need to input the analogue VHS source onto my computer in a format that Main Concept encoder will recognise.

I have a radeon 9800 pro with a dv socket, s-video, and standard vga socket but i am assuming that they are all outputs. what sort of hardware will i need to do this conversion.

Thanks in advance

cheers

You have two options...

1) If you have a digicam with an analog input then you can connect the vcr to the camera, and capture via the firewire port on the pc.

2) You'll need an analog capture card for the pc. There are a few around of varying prices and quality. I think you can get a basic one for 50-60 quid. Mine (with the full adobe video editing suite) cost about a grand...

Depends what you want really. If you just want a straight transfer, then I suspect a cheap card will do the job for you....

I use the Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP Deluxe card, not a very catchy name, but works a treat at full res and much better than the Pinnacle cards I have used in the past. Cheap too.
