NotoriousREV 12 October 2004 08:09 AM

What a load of ****e tonight's show was.

F1 car vs a Superbike? Rubbish, show us an F1 car vs Rossi's RC211V, the result would have been similar but not as big a gap.

And that Capri? They kept saying it was one of the last ones and was a "Special". Er, no it wasn't, the specials were badged 280 Special and had full leather interior. That one didn't have leather and was badged 2.8 Injection, meaning it was just a normal 2.8 with a 5 speed box which a lot of the later ones had anyway.

Rubbish, boring format, boring presenters.

ajm 12 October 2004 08:12 AM

As per the SN Top Gear threads...... I take it you won't be watching the next one, or can we look forward to another rant same time next week?! :D ;)

The race was lame though, I have to agree! ;)

Pastor 12 October 2004 08:25 AM

Has the fat, ugly guy with the beard left 5th gear now? Seem to think he went over to top gear magazine so perhaps he'll be blubbering his way onto that show. It's safe to say he's the most annoying TV presenter I'm yet to see.

Butty 12 October 2004 08:46 AM

Fancy suggesting that the Capri was an ideal begineers car to "learn handling skills"?!?!

It would lasted 100 yards if I had one at 17 - I had enough difficulty trying to keep a Polo on the black stuff.

Nick

Gutmann pug 12 October 2004 09:46 AM

Come on then how many people rang up to try to win the capri ....... coz i sure as hell did.
Would love that as a track car ......

Can't even remember him... Who was that??

Pastor 12 October 2004 09:50 AM

Don't know his name but he's a beardy guy, fat and I remember him driving some military vehicles in an episode last year.
He's obviously gone or you'd know who I mean. Very annoying and a weird way of speaking. Think he does TG magazine now so expect him to be up Clarksons ass in the next series of Top Gear.

Reffro 12 October 2004 09:52 AM

Tom Ford is his name...

Paulo P 12 October 2004 09:59 AM

Bugger I missed it :(

I'll probably watch it if I remember it's on, but won't make a point of it.

And yes, I did try to win the Capri, but it still isn't a "Special" or worth £10k ;)

Why not? Back in the 70's they would have been bought by 17 year olds etc.

My dad had a race prepared 3.0 S in his early 20's, though he did spin it a few times tbh :D

Exactly what I was thinking! Stupid race to have, BSB vs F1 was no match. Take an GP bike vs F1 car and much better entertainment :D

The Capri's looked excellent, I loved them as a kid and just been looking on Autotrader and some very nice examples - even a silver one so can be Bodie and Doyle replica ;)

Shame the cars got such a bad reputation and have a real stigma attached to them, not helped at all by Del's Only Fools and Horses example! :D Would love to take one on track.

Anyone know what the 3.1s Burton engine model was? I thought the 2.8i were the beasts to have? Also whats the 280 Brooklands - a special edition of the 2.8i?

Jap2Scrap 12 October 2004 10:51 AM

The Burton engine was a rebored Kent engine. The 280 specials and brooklands were rebadged 2.8i's with half-leather recarro seats n that. The brooklands was only available in Brooklands green IIRC and there were 1040 made, the last 1040 off the line.

The one to have is the Tickford Turbo ;)

NotoriousREV 12 October 2004 10:57 AM

Nah, the one to have is a MkI 3.0 GT XLR ;)

Gutmann pug 12 October 2004 11:10 AM

Met an old chap at the 'ring' in may, he was over there in his old 911 carrera. He said he also owned a Capri track car and used it round the circuits. I asked which engine it had ....... His reply was ''it used to run a 3ltr engne but was terribly under powered so I rang up TVR and they delivered me a new 4.5 litre V8 in a crate (cost £6K), it goes a bit better now'' :D :D ........geezer must have been about 65-70 years old .....fair play, much respect.

The only main reasons for looking at 5th Gear is mainly because of Vicki-Butler Henderson ;) and do like my cars

The RS3100 Capri is the one to have , and yes Im old enough to have had them all 3000S, 2.8 injection, entered the competition last night too, how sad am I. :)

speedking 12 October 2004 12:33 PM

Lovely jubbly ...

I had a 3.0l S. White with black vinyl roof. Loved the V6. The front was stronger than the side of a Lotus Excel ;)

JackClark 12 October 2004 12:41 PM

I had my Mums Capri 1.3L in Black with Red interior. Broke the half shaft wheelspining.
