Decat Exhaust

Hi all,

Sure this won't take long to answer:-

MY99 UK turbo.
K&N induction kit.
Bailey atmos dump valve.
Scoobyworld Ninja back box.
Everything else is standard.

I'm looking at fitting a Scoobyworld Ninja de-cat centre section.

1) Will I notice a performance increase?
2) Will my Scooby still pass it's MOT?

Thanks in advance...

Perhaps a slight improvement and yes :)

There is still a cat in the downpipe which will take care of emissions. This is the one that really has the biggest effect on performance so if you would be better off doing de-cat downpipe with std centre for a bigger improvement, this should still pass an MOT, or do both and stick the centre back in at MOT time (2 bolt flange each end, 15-20 minute DIY swap)

Realistically it should still pass the mot,you will still have a cat in the downpipe...As long as the emmisions are ok...
Ive seen figures quoting up to 18bhp with decat non res centers,
Besides you could always drop the catted center back in for the mot its only 4 bolts :)

sorry to jump in on this question, but i have been considering the same, how hard is it to get your car through the MOT with just a centre section on, is it tight on emissions or does it go through easily? because its the middle section it does not warm up as much as the downpipe cat, so therefore was thinking it cant be as effective.

Thanks
Tebo

Most of the garages round here know what to expect when a scoob or as such comes in for mot  ,So if the center cats in and the emmisions a bit high i think they realise its not a mini 1000  LOL and use there discretion accordingly,Well they did with mine :D

when you say use their discretion, I was under the impression that the gas analyser gave a printout that had to be attached to the MOT paperwork ? thats what I was led to beleive anyway.

Thanks
Tebo

The efficiency of the centre cat can be improved by getting it good and warm with a good run before going for the MOT. It seems to vary though, some people have had trouble on centre only, some sail through. Consensus seems to be that it will generally be fine though.

Thanks, a new front pipe it will be for me then, any recommendations for an MY00 classic with PPP?

Thanks
Tebo

My car (MY99 RB5) has passed it's MOT twice with nothing more than the original centre cat.

the only issue with a full decat is being stopped at the side of the road for an emmisions test, not sure what they are like around your way, but I have seen the vans out and about around my way, not often but they do appear from time to time, I know its only a check and they dont normally do anything except make you get it fixed within 14 days but I dont want the hassle of it all, so I was thinking of leaving the middle one on. The middle pipe is not a major increase from what I have seen anyway, unlike the torque gains you get from the front pipe.

Thanks
Tebo

Why dont you just get it MOTed before you fit the exhaust. I plan on fitting a non resinated center section myself, while everybody's talking whats the impact noise wise. I currently have a Magnex BB, how much louder will it be with a straight through pipe?

Ok this all sounds good, but what about:-

Downpipe Lagging?
Knocklink?

morpheous 11 October 2004 07:42 PM

I run janspeed d\pipe
magnex straight through center
magnex rear box
Not noisey at all
Sometimes wish it was lol
2db difference in res or non res magnex

Would you need a knock link for a center section and BB. Excuse my ignorance but what does a knock link actually do, I hear a lot of talk about them, why?

bttt for that question, i,m in the dark too:freak3:

morpheous 14 October 2004 07:05 PM

Basically you dont need a knocklink cuz you change the zorst..
I would fit a k\link to a standard scoob gives you early warning of detonation which could be caused by a number of things ...Also peace of mind when your mod-ding....:)

OK, next dumb question!
My current standard downpipe has a heat shield fitted. Can this be removed and fitted to my nice new decat downpipe or do I need to get some lagging??

morpheous 21 October 2004 01:46 PM

You can lag the d\pipe and turbo but i just modded the heat shield and refitted top and bottom pieces,You only have to open the shield openinmg around the d\pipe :) As for the knocklink i have a g\buy on these and lambda sensors ending midnight saturday :)
