Insuring a Type RA Rally Car as a second car
 

A friend and I have just bought a Type RA as a base to build a stage rally car.
We will need to insure the car, and as we both own STi 7 and 8, pay a fare bit on insurance at the mo.
Is there anybody that has done this and insured there rally car as a second car and advise us on the CHEAPEST and easiest way of doing this.

We will also be looking for sponsorship, so if any private insurance companies are reading this and may be interested please mail me.

Been investigating doing something similar with mine.
(All NCB used on daily driver with 0 NCB for the Impreza (UK 94))

https://www.firebond.co.uk all mods declared, 3k pa, nil NCB fully comp at £368. (don't know their stance on imports or less than 10yrs old) (Ring them - don't use the online quote stuff & tell them you want a limited mileage / classic style policy)

Heritage (0121 246 6060) £440 - fully comp, nil NCB, £100 XS, 3k miles pa (not sure on mods stance, think car has to be >10yrs old)

These two are for competion cars only (need MSA licence & proof of championship etc.)

Roadsure (020 8989 9595) £550 - TPF&T, nil NCB, £250 xs, will be NCB earning, unrestricted mods.

Are you sure about those comps, I have just rang them and they said no chance insuring a rally car.

I would start with Competition car Insurance (Egger Lawson) and explain the situation.

They will understand (many of the people working there rally themselves) what you want and although they may not be absolutely the cheapest, you can be sure they have covered you properly.

Companies such as Adrian Flux dont cater specifically for th emarket and Ive never been confident that the cover they offer is actually suitable for a rallycar and I would indeed be covered.

Both Roadsure & Competition car ins should be fine to quote, it's what they specialise in, which is why they both insist on MSA licence & championship registration etc. to sort the serious from the wannabes.

Always ring rather than use online, and if you get a clown who doesn't know what they're talking about insist on speaking to someone that does !

Sorry can't help with names as I've now binned most of the details. (Remember having a long conversation with a bloke at Roadsure who was excellent.)
What response did CC Ins & Roadsure come up with ?

No response , they said they could not insure us on a rally car or inport.

I'm astounded, CC ins state on their site "we can insure any competition car" it's why they exist ! (Can only think they don't like you / your mate rather than disliking the car.) (You could query it with a mail to the grande fromage regger@eggerlawson.co.uk ;))

Being following this thread and C&C quoted me £817 full comp with 2.5k miles pa limit in Tunbridge Wells. Car not garaged, usual anti-thieft devices, I also have two convictions, one SP & one MW.

mods include

roll cage
buckets
fire ex.
brake upgrade
strut brace
harnesses

limit miles 5K a year

cover 3rd party T&T and cover between stages (for road rally's???) anyway its there
