Liverpool Victoria cancelling policies with mods?
Just read on the scoobycity web site. Anybody know if this is true?
I have loads of mods on mine, mainly due to the fact that at the time of taking out my policy mods were not "a problem - as long as the cc is not increased". My policy is up for renewal Novemeber! http://www.scoobycity.co.uk/phpBB2/v...d5a6f58#122714 |
Just trenewed with them.
Absolutely no mention of this and no problem. Plenty more fish (sharks) in the sea even if they do!;) Alcazar |
|
Well, I suppose they can do as they please, but if they cancel mine, they can cancel both cars and the house contents, a total of well over £1300 in spite of ncb.:(:
I'll just have to wait and see. Alcazar |
Surely not  I took my insurance just a couple of weeks ago with Liverpool Victoria and they catergorically said that mods were no problem at all. They even said that the mods would be replaced like for like in the event of a claim (and not replaced with std bits). Also confirmed that no alarm, immobiliser or tracker were needed. Told me just to take pics of the mods and paperwork if avail but not to send it in.
I have it all on tape :D Bob |
Glad to hear people are still renewing without any problems. Perhaps the previous problems reported are due to something else.
I will see what happens in November! |
my renewal is due next month ive got a 22B with 7k worth of mods and they are fine about it its even come down abit
polo 1.9SE tdi 115bhp 22B 400LBS TORQUE with £7k worth of mods £850 fully comp thats for both cars :D:D:D:D:D:D |
Didn't know you could get polos with 115 tdi's in them! Must be quite nippy
|
Just called them for a quote and they say that you can modify the car as long as it does not increase the cc OR BHP !!! :(
So maybe you'd better all check again then!!! Any other useful insurers that I can try?? |

I would get any statements from them in writing and not just reply on some numbskull at the other end of the phone.
I wouldn't like to hear that they said it was OK, then later refused a claim. Have any of you listed mods on the Insurance policy documents? Stefan |

NOPE .. NO "something else " !!!!

I took out my policy with LV in April .. was told everything u have read on here regarding mods .. My car is a UK , 1 year old 03 WRX Wagon .. Now .. I have No previous problems , No Claims , I'm over 31 , 5 Yrs protected NCD , No criminal record , No points , No health problems .. NOTHING ! All mods okayed with them 1st ( PPP , Springs + Strutbrace ..HARDLY major mods ! ) , all even fitted by the Subaru Dealer ( ie official upgrades ) .. What have I done wrong ? Do you see anything suspicious ? 'Cause I don't ! Steve |
Have any of you listed mods on the Insurance policy documents the problem alot of people are having is there age if you are over 35 with l&v you can have wot you want realy:D |
TopBanana THEIRS NOT MANY ABOUT, 115 polos, and its the estate as well
my01 y reg 55k miles 1 owner :D |
Chaps
Now arranged my insurance with them a few days ago and they also confirmed that any mods are allowed as long as you do not change the engine - that is the only thing they are interested in. I asked how this would effect me if the car was stolen, and the lady said not a problem but you must have evidence of them being installed (ie copies of the recipts from the items you purchased and then colour pictures of the items installed on your car. I will be going PPP route hence this question. No pictures, no refund if the car is stolen. And she said no need to have it outlined on the documents... It could be, as there are conflicting stories, that it depends on your age and NCB etc as this is the only variable. I cannot see them letting a 21 year old fitting loads of mods and not increasing the premium, but then again, stranger things happen... Andy |
They told me that engine changes were fine and I've called them twice in response to threads like these to double check. They just renewed with something along the lines of:
Engine and carburrettor (!) mods Suspension mods Brake mods Wheel and tyre mods They wouldn't give me anything more specific in writing "because we don't do that". So for a Puma 1.7 and 440 BHP Scooby they take about £1200 a year - wife is 31, I am 30. I only expect to get market value back for the Scooby in the event of a claim - about half what it is worth to me if that. It is a risk of modding IMHO. OTOH these stories are quite concerning, you want to know above all that you have third party cover these days and not have hassle if you had a claim, and also I could do with the handy £8000 back if my Scooby was written off. We've thrown them thousands over the years to insure up to 3 cars and never claimed apart from windscreen repairs, so perhaps that is something to do with it. |
right ive got the l&v man at my house now as ive got about 6 policies with them we are going to call the head office and sort it out, will post as soon as we have done this
thx simon |
Good on you - post up with the details.
Brian :D |
lock him in the kasi until they promise to play ball.
|
right then heres the low down on l&v
if you have an existing policy, you dont have any problems with your renewal (mods or no mods)
if its a new policy then they will not insure the car with mods (they will allow alloy wheels) so i you are with l&v dont move if you have mods on your car;) if you are not with l&v at the minute sorry UNLUCKY:D:p lol@jjones :D |
Is this for "current policies" or "current customers"?
If I changed the car on my current policy would I be allowed to add mods to it or would this come under their new ban? |
'if you have an existing policy, you dont have any problems with your renewal (mods or no mods)'
From what date is this effective? 'if its a new policy then they will not insure the car with mods (they will allow alloy wheels)' This has been said before and I took up a policy with them at the end of June 2004 and got the blurb said above that any mods are covered, take pics, no engine capacity changes. They had no problem with the mods I had. Damian. |
just renewing now with L&V....
they have said mods are ok as long as I have proof in the event of a theft and the CC is standard. |
And the saga goes on .......

Now it may be different someone of the phone sales team telling u otherwise but I promise u , the actual underwriters call the shots and do not insure modded vehicles ! Steve |
My schedule has modifications listed though.
|
Where's that brick wall ? ...
:brickwall
|
You mean about me not following you or about LV? If it is in writing in an insurance schedule you would be on pretty strong ground in the event of a claim surely?
|
Not u .. BLOOMING LV ARE DRIVING ME MAD !

I mean about L.V. .. I think it's unbelievable that it's one story for one person , and a totally diff story for another . Also , annoyingly , I have explained 'til I'm blue in the face that they won't insure me , but they are giving new policies , renewing policies , and have current policies with LOADS of Scoobs , Skylines , Evos etc with mods , but they won't insure my car " as they don't insure modified vehicles " . When I tell them this , they cannot comment on other vehicles do u data protection act etc , and cannot look into it ! Edited to say , yes , they would HAVE to cover u since u have it in writing , in the event of a claim . I give up ! Steve |
When I renewed my insurance last year with L&V, I informed them of my mods (PPP ecu and backbox) - no increase
At renewal time this year (30th sept) and following comments on here (i.e. no mention of Mods on insurance cert.), I thought I should check if they had my Mods listed on their system - took the lady I spoke to a few minutes to find the right 'screen', but sure enough she listed them exactly as listed last year. (PPP ecu/backbox - down as 'Engine/exhaust modification').So they do record these things...! Should add that I have made a note of the person I spoke to and the date/time etc. And (just to make u lot green...........) my premium is £362.09!!!! (54/75%ncb/cheap area) alan p.s. - declare mods at renewal time!!!!!!!! |
