Clifford net wizard problem
 

Has anyone else ever had any problems with installing and running this program?
I have purchased the kit from a Clifford agent,installed it on my new laptop but when i connect up to the alarm it tells me that the COM 4 port is the wrong name.I have checked all the drivers and made sure that COM4 port is enabled only for this program,i have even tried uninstalling/installing and down loading the latest version from Clifford but still no joy!!!

The kit never came with any instructions and the place that sold it to me simply say that you just install and use (i really think that they are a bit pissed with me setting my own alarm settings).

Does anyone have any ideas or a copy of installation instuctions??

I went here for the software as far as I recall, connected the lead up and it found the port on my notebook and works.

I know that does not help but that’s what I did.

If it does not find the port when you start the application it goes thought the ports and defaults to being in demo mode.

At what point is this falling over for you?

Mine is running on win2000.

Come back to me and I will sort around for a few ideas.

Its not just you, I am running XP with service Pack2.

I am having problems now, even trying to install it with version 2.20. On my desktop PC

The copy on my notebook is running fine on version 2.1 running Win2000
Had a look for this version as an installation, and at the movement have not laid my hands on it, so I have been unable to try it on XP SP2.

As for documentation I have found this in the install folder

I will keep trying to sort this, please come back with any information that you find out.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

CD Version:
If the CD "auto-loader" is enabled on your computer, then the "shell.exe" (located
in the root directory) will automatically launch.

Web Dowloaded Version:
Once the install image has been unzipped to a temporary directory on the root
directory of your computer, launch the "shell.exe" by double clicking on the
Wizard ICON.

The install shell will prompt you to "Close all programs before installing".
Perform this action if needed before proceeding.

The install shell will automatically detect the Windows operating system of your
computer, and enable the appropriate install button. Note that if both buttons are
enabled, then you may have an operating system that is not supported by this edition of
Wizard.

Once the install button is selected, the appropriate install shield is launched,
and the remainder of the installation is menu driven.

Cheers Ajax (long time no see BTW;))....i have installed it ok and have installed a program for the USB to RS232 convertor lead as my lap top only has USB ports.
When i connect up it will not reckonise any ports (it says they are incorrectly named).
I can go into demo mode (offline) but that is all...i am using XP pro with all the latest updates and patches.

Getting very frustrated as i need to reprogram some settings but am unable to get to the local Clifford dealer (not very helpful over the phone )

quicksprint: ah so you have USB, is it working in device manager, if it is can you prove this by attaching an old serial device to it, ie mouse, old road angel etc

Apparently these are recognised in device manager as a USB to serial bridge, in theory if device manager sees it working it should be OK.

I have installed the WIZ220 software on XP SP1 & 2 with no problem, as I see you are able to get to the demo mode, I can only expect that the serial port is not being recognised it looks for serial comports 1 & 2 which most old computers have the reference to comports 3 & 4 are just registry listings to say they don’t exist.

Now for the big one, I have it in the back of my mind that you have to have the ignition on to connect up, can’t quite remember but have it on anyway.

Will test it out at the week end to give a step by step account.

I don’t use the cable much, but I do know it works and is very useful, scares me to death fiddling with the alarm to much, it’s got a life of its own.

Could have tested, your cable / alarm with my laptop

That’s got to be your next quest, isolate the problem

1. Car

3. Notebook

You have got to swap a few things round, with known working parts of the setup.

Borrow a notebook computer and try it on that or take your desktop out into the garage and run it on that as a test.

Hi guys, sorry it has been a while sinice we were last here, but me and Mark have been hectic!!
Quicksprint, unfortunatley your wizard will not work. The system cannot use USB to RS232 convertors as the port dies when no data is being transferred, and the software/alarm needs to see continuous connection even when no data is being passed.
We are aware that more and more people are using USB, and we are designing a USB version of the soft and hard ware, but this is still in the R+D stage and wont be released for a while.
In the mean time, if you find a PC with a serial port, it will work as simply as your installer said.
Anyone who is running XP, who is having trouble, try doing a windows update as this usually cures connection issues, it has worked the four times I have had to look at peoples PCs.

My wizard works fine with a usb to serial convertor :D

Which one do you use. I have failed to find any that have. Or is it something more to do with the hardware on your PC? I would be interestes to know.

We have also tried a USB to serial convertor but had no luck. So will also like to know which one you are using.

Thanks for the info guys...i am using a US232B adaptor but it will not work with the Cliffnet Wizzard.
S.B what did you rename the port so yours worked?

i have the clifford g5 system fitted model 650.i purchased the cliff net wizzard lead from ebay. downloaded the software from clifford.i installed the software on laptop first.connected the com port cable in the laptop,plugged in into the alarm and started up the programe.connected straight away.im running windows xp with service pack 1 and 2.when u do get it up and running.make sure you dont try and programme too much stuff at once because it will crash.do a little then disconnect lock ur door then unlock with the key thob and plug it back in again to learn it some more.

any advances on this guys??? I too have the same problemo and have been racking my brains for the last two weeks!!!!

Right.....After some research, and some playing, I have discovered a piece of software, that will keep the USB port open while wizard is working. I will put this on a server, and make it available for download soon. I have to try and make it user friendly, as at the moment it is quite tricky to get right. So bear with me.

I had the same problem and tried several usb adapters, no luck.
The solution, a PCmIA card to serial adapter for your laptop, it works great.

joeh5163, nice solution but just a tad bit on the expensive side mate.

I am eager to try the piece of software you have that resolves this problem, if not could you send me the URL of where you found it and any problems that you are facing? I am an I.T literate person, so hopefully together we can solve this problem and put an end to all our nightmares :)
