Aftermarket sunroofs

Just wondered if there was any problem with having a sunroof fitted to my 98S Impreza Turbo?

Go to your local SUBARU dealer and he should be able to sort you out for around £800 quid for an electron tilt/slide tinited sunroof. This sunroof my dad had on his 98S Sport. it was a really hi quality S/R.

£800 !!! I was thinking of going to a local sunroof specialist, e.g. the one who fitted a manual sunroof to my Escort, about 12 years ago, for £100. Never had any problems in 10 years of use. Just wanted to know if there was a problem with roof reinforcement beams or something like that...

I remember seeing an ad for a firm fitting sunroofs 'from £49.99'; hold on, there was an ad for Motorola carphones next to it...15 months contract 1/2 minute billing.... I dont think that you will be able to find anywhere that fits sunroofs any more, I might be wrong but the market just isnt there.

Well, from a quick Google, it looks like the place I used 12 years ago is still going. And I'd be happy to go back. But my original question was: is there anything to stop me doing this - e.g. structural stuff in the Scoob?

Being serious, I honestly dont know, but seeing as there are GC8 / GF8 Imprezas with factory sunroofs I would conclude not.

Is that specifically with Imprezas?

As I say, my experience with a manual tilt only aftermarket sunroof was excellent - 10 years and no problems at all.

My MY98 Impreza turbo came with a electric tilt/slide sunroof from new, but even though the sunroof was ordered when the car was ordered the sunroof was actually a dealer fit. As you would expect the dealers don't actually fit it but use local companies. Mine was fitted by a company called Motormods in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. My current local dealer used to use a company called Bristol Sunroof centre in Brislington, Bristol for similar 'factory, sunroofs. Mine is a 'Hollandia TVS' if that is any use. I suspect cheapo 'cut a hole and fit a glass tilt sunroof' type sunroof are more trouble than they are worth...

Thanks for the info, Ian. :-)
