Ouch? Brings tears to your eyes! Would probably be easier to list the parts that don't need replacing...

teknobod 02 October 2004 10:13 PM

I'm trying to figure out how it managed to avoid becoming an insurance loss. How can anyone afford to write off a 6 month old STi and sell for salvage only?
They must be losing 15-17k on it if not more!!!

Andy

Sore one!

RON 02 October 2004 11:22 PM

Must have been driven by someone who didn't own it or somethin, still a costly mistake whatever!

Mica Blue 02 October 2004 11:46 PM

Looked like it stood up to the crash ok though...

plue the owner could get more money doing it that way and get more like £4,500.00 for it ;)

My sentiments exactly, plus: when the radiator moves back the belts usually snap making this a £5,000 gearbox/ringing opportunity. You just know whats going to happen dont you?

GC8 03 October 2004 04:05 PM

I see that he wants to keep the registered number to himself too.....

Look much like one of our company pool cars, but has less external damage !

:)

Nixon 04 October 2004 04:11 PM

Am I crazy to even begin thinking about bidding? Looks as though it'll go for a smudge over £4,000.00 and having checked with Grade-A Subaru you can get a complete new shell with all the panels and bumpers for £4,115.00 (Inc VAT) ready for painting, allow a budget of £1,800.00 for a decent spray job and underseal and your standing at £9,915.00... add to this the following...

windscreen (laminated and heated) £250.00
remaining glass (Inc. rear window) £350.00
Battery £60.00
New roof lining, parcel shelf, gear knob etc £400.00
New front & rear lights £500.00
New rear spoiler £800.00
Consumables etc £800.00

Comes in at £13,075.00, one cheapo STi in nead of a T-Cut?!!

Mark A 04 October 2004 04:37 PM

Or sell the gearbox £2k and engine £1.5K, plus interior for £500 and you've covered the cost with brakes, wheels and any extras as profit :norty:

Mark

RRH 04 October 2004 05:19 PM

Nixon, bear in mind the labour mate; even if you do it all yourself there is still a cost attributable to it.

Also, bear in mind that it can take a couple of months for a car to show on the HPi register as damaged, and if it does get listed you could end up with massive problems.

micky 04 October 2004 07:05 PM

as far as i know grade a have a shell BUT IT AINT NEW. someone i know was interested for a rallycar its secondhand and has had rear end damage repaired. so its also from a shell change!!!
ps dont forget to allow for a top end rebuild £1500
ie the broken belt pulley
also you cant buy a new shell from a uk dealer!

micky 04 October 2004 07:20 PM

just noticed its got four wheel steering too

Wonder if the person who bought it is starting to regret getting so carried away?

It's not worth £7000 as there can't be very much on that car that is salvageable. I would imagine all the suspension is wrecked and there is also a good chance the cambelt came off in the crash and killed the engine.

Paulo P 05 October 2004 09:53 AM

I can't believe someone paid so much when it sounds like the engine will be scrap  I certainly wouldn't part with £7,000 for that.
