question about bugeye
 

i wnat to import a bugeye and want to know about all the special edition bugeyes that were released in japan and if there were and limited ones like the wrc or something.

Well the S202 is the ultimate if im correct. It has the twin scroll turbo (not roller bearing though) ? and power output comes as standard at 320hp. ;)
However im sure the S202 also has equal length headers so the trademark bub bub burble is not present due to the lack of unequal header.
It also has a few other extras over the STi.

Hadn't seen that one before - it looks very like the Prodrive Style car we got over here, but with the 280PS engine and a roof vent I see. No DCCD either, which seems odd for a Japanese car.

Does the S202 have DCCD?

Yep its a limited edition based on the Spec C, with RAYS alloys and carbon spoiler and 6 speed box. First impreza to break the 280ps gentlemans agreement and marketed with 320ps. Basically they threw all the toys at it.

So, do you know if the engine is mechanically different or if it's just a different map?

Even the '05 STI is sold as 280PS, but a quick look at the power/torque curve shows that the torque has obviously been deliberately made to drop off sharply after its peak; power output is flat at 280PS over half the rev range!

Needless to say, a remap soon sorts this, and over 300bhp on UK fuel is what's promised.

Standard engine for year with STi tuning, uprated parts etc, didnt get the equal length manifolds, has a vf34 rollerbearing turbo like all spec c cars for that year, pushes out 320ps and 287lbs of torque out of the box, is THE highest tuned STi out of the factory that they produced, run of 400, doesnt have the SUBARU badge on the boot due to the higher output (to do with the gentlemens agreement).
A very rare car, and if you can afford to run one, then go for one, not many people know what they are but as bug eye'd cars go, these are the ultimate ;):D

very true, I have lost count of the number of times people have said, why have you swapped your rear spoiler for that!!!!!!:D

The '05 STI doesn't have a Subaru badge on the back either - not sure whether earlier models do or not - but that's 280PS out of the box.

Looks as though the S202's power comes from a different exhaust and a remapped ECU - things which most people fit to STIs anyway, especially imports. Any idea what it produces on UK fuel?

My guess is it would make a better track day car than the standard STI thanks to the oil cooler and different suspension mounts, but on the road I think I'd still prefer the creature comforts of the standard car. Love the wheels, though :)
