Scooby Advice

Whats the best handling Scooby around? If i bought one i'd have around £16k to spend on a Impreza. A UK model would suit me best. I was looking at 53 reg WRX's aswell as the RB5, P1 etc, oviously those last 2 would be a few years old.

Any comments on which one would be best? If i sold my car i have now i'd be moving from a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. The power is amazing on these cars and i'm not 100% on selling, just weighing up my options at the moment.

Cheers,

Paul

You could pick up an '02 sti for that kind of money, all better round car, though not the best looking with those headlights (easily solved though)

I know those bug eyes are horrible, nice though if you put black twin headlights on it

No contest, get a P1 :D

You'd probably find one for sale privately for that sort of money.

Anyone with specs for the P1?

The only thing about these cars, aswell as a few other Imprezas i've seen on here is that some have had there engines rebuilt....this worrys me slightly, as i havn't heard of many Supras being rebuilt unless a Huge single has been fitted. What i mean is i don't want to sell mine and buy a P1 for the engine to blow.....

Whats the common faults on these, if any?

Apparently a few P1 engines have gone bang, no idea on the circumstances but a lot reckon its due to them being fitted with an almost standard jap spec STI5 ecu and engine. The ecus were modified by STI to include extra knock correction for UK fuel, but they weren't specifically remapped for UK fuel.

Handling wise, they're streets ahead of standard UK turbos of the same age, not sure how they stack up against bugeyes or blobeyes as i haven't driven one. There's also the rarity value.

I'm not really that worried if the engine goes bang, i bought mine as a proven used Subaru and then extended the warranty till the end of 2006 for an extra £350. You can keep extending the warranty right up to 100k miles as long as you don't let it lapse, if find that pretty reassuring. Mine's standard except for an exhaust, i put decent oil in it and make sure it's warmed up and down properly. I might look into putting a knocklink on it for safety, but probably only if i'm planning to tune it.

If you want more info on the P1 look here http://www.iwoc.co.uk/p1.html or sign up at http://www.p1woc.co.uk where most of the P1 owners lurk. :)

If i ever sell my P1 the only other thing i'd consider is either an Evo6 Tommi Makkinen, or an Evo8 FQ330.

no faults at all ....if it has been well maintained
mine has 350bhp uprated turbo ,decat blitz ,Aps front mount lamba and knock link sensors and tek3 remaped.....and has never missed a beat :)
ps but you wont get it for 16K lol :)

I'd have to say a P1, but it has to have been looked after. Always run on super+ preferably optimax, MAF sensor replaced now and again, always warmed up and cooled down. Oil changed regularly.

I also don't think you should ask these things of the previous owner. If I was to sell my car I would be telling the buyer exacly what to do to look after it. If you look hard enough you'll find a good one.
