Number plate stolen!

I have a STI wagon which I park in my drive, it is covered by a car cover as it is only used at weekends. Today as I left the house I noticed the cover was up slightly at the back after looking closer I found the number plate missing and also at the front. I have notified the police who said it was probably stolen to put on a vehicle to commit a crime with, has any scoobynetters had a simular thing happen to them? also I am worried that they may have taken them and then will come back with different plates and steal the car. Do you think I am worrying unnessessarily or is this something that goes on.
There are three other cars parked in the drive why take the STIs plates?

They may stick them on a nicked STi - same colour etc. That way if it does get checked it doesn't flag as stolen and it looks like the record on the PNC. Only an examination of the engine/chassis numbers would show that the vehicle is cloned.

Watch out for any rogue parking tickets etc.

Thieving g1ts

Sounds like a bloody good reason to get another, different, plate if you ask me.

Make sure you do report it as well....a marker can be put on PNC showing that the plate was stolen and that the chassis number needs confirming. Might get tugged a few times but it'll be worth it if they catch the buggers
