What TV?...Help needed

I usually pride myself on being able to find a good deal/package but I haven't got a clue what to do about a new TV.

There seem to be so many options.

I want a largish TV with cinema type sound to watch telly and DVD's on..oh and my son would like to play games if possible too.

I've not got mega bucks to spend unfortunately :( , about £1500

Can anyone point me in the right direction...is there a site with reviews etc of all the best systems etc.?....or better still what would you recommend>?

Sonys are always recommended and are considered one of the best. The only faults they have are the tube. JVC are also good and a fair bit cheaper than Sony.

£1500 should get you something quite decent.

My listings (can't remember model numbers, sorry) are:

Philips - best value for money, best sounding IMO
Toshiba picture frame - looks superb, sounds not quite as good
Panasonic...never that much oomph sound-wise

Equivelent Sony will cost more, for somthing of the same spec.

Personally, I'd go for a 32" pro-logic 100Hz Philips (32PW9768C )for £900(ish) Best picture, and basic, yet good quality sound. And spend your remaining £600 on a seperate 7.1/6.1 A/V amplifier/decoder and matching speaker package. (proper speakers, not these tiny satelites)

Then you will get the best CRT picture (the tube used is pretty much the same for the higher range models) and you also get the best REAL hi-fi quality sound and oomph that no TV can match. :)

the Panasonic TX 36PL32 is great. I havent seen a better picture on anything else!!. if you want full surround get a dedicated amp. It is worth the extra expence.
