Barclaycard 0% offer - what a joke!

Get letter through the door offering barclaycard with 0% til aug 2005. Great me thinks so orders one. Comes yesterday with a credit limit of £260.

Ring them up and ask to increase credit limit. Sorry sir we cant do that til after 6 months. WTF is the point of that then? I suggested to her that the 0% offer was a scam to get people in.

I then said well you may as well cancel my card now then as £260 is useless. She replies "so you dont want to wait 6 months then sir?". No thank you - I will go with someone who wants my money.

Anyone else get a similar offer?

Simon.

P.S. FWIW other than a mortgage and just under £2k on a card I have no debts.

lardypants 18 September 2004 01:00 PM

is a tad strange isnt it, the norm for a credit limit seems to start at around 3.5k from experiance with all the cards i have

lardypants 18 September 2004 01:02 PM

oh and just to add dont bother with barclaycard there a pain in the arse they ring me maybe twice a week trying to sell me iinsurance etc etc

normally its some fooker from india etc and i cant understand a word they fookin say

hence i balance transfered over to a halifax one card this morning 0 percent for 9 mts and barclays will be closed

hoskib 18 September 2004 01:24 PM

i got a 4k limit, more than enough for a 2 grand interest free loan for a year:D:D

carl 18 September 2004 01:27 PM

£5.8k for me, which I thought was a bit mean. Both my Egg and Halifax cards have limits of around £12k.

Albert47 18 September 2004 01:28 PM

When those fookers rings the house (If i understand them). we just say "yep hang on will just get him/her for you" then leave the phone on the side and leave it for about 10 minutes.:D :D waste there phone bill!!!!! or say "are you taking the piss, she left me last week for the milk man".

We aren't being nasty but when u get 2 a day, it starts to p**s you off.

Well I must be the only unlucky one then as I usually tend to get an initial £3/4k and most of my cards are now £6/7k (not that I use it).

In the past when increasing credit limit they usually ask what limit my other cards are and then mirror that.

Lets be honest £260 is a joke - I think they forgot the last zero :)

Anyway theyve lost me as a customer.

Simon.

2 - 5k per month as standard? Not bad...

pslewis 18 September 2004 03:46 PM

Is it the Barclaycard offer that says 0% on transfers then proceeds to CHARGE you a fee to transfer funds??? Or that could be the Halifax card??

Either way, watch out!

I got a MINT card last March and have had 0% since - and thats on purchases too!! :D

When I got close to my limit they increased it without me asking, excellent service!

Ive had no probs with Mint either - even when the postie nicked my new replacement card and went on a shoppng spree in reading (when I was in Amsterdam). But my 0% period finishes end of this month.

Is that a joke or just a bit naive? (NO Offense intended at all Pete)

They see that you've been spending near to your limit and so they put it up without asking you to try to convince you that you can "handle the debt". Most people then spend even more, thinking "Well my Card company thinks I can afford it, so I MUST be able to!" and before you know it, you've got £10k worth of debt and it's a slippery slope.

I've always been able to stay clear of big debts, but I know of people who have debts in excess of £35k because they were naive enough to think that because they were being offered credit left, right and centre, that they could afford it.

Like I said - no offense, but everyone with a CC should be careful! :)

No offence taken, I agree totally with what you say.

The reason I said excellent service is because I am in an interest free period - they are not getting one penny off me in interest (and haven't since last March) .... I have been wise and popped what I owe each month into an account paying 5% - end of interest free period = end of savings and the full debt will be cleared. The result is a net gain to me! :D

Oh, yes, I ALSO get 1% cashback for everything I spend on the card - so, roughly the £20,000 debt has paid me £200 cashback AND paid me about £300 in interest.

I will repeat that - I am £500 better off by switching to an interest free cashback card! :D

Free money - go get YOUR share!!
