Airshow - Baby ear defenders?
 

Bit late now but you never know

We've just been invited round my GF's mates parents house Sunday afternoon thats got a great view of the Biggin airshow.

Now I'm not sure how close it is, and how loud it'll be from our viewpoint and we don't have the parents No. to ask and her mate doesn't fly into the country 'till tomorrow so we can't find out how suitable it is 'till then. So just incase I'm trying to get some ear defenders for our 9 month old daughter.

GF says Mothercare doesn't do them :D

So questions are:

How F'ing loud is it at an airshow? Do you see babys with ear defenders on?

If, say we're half a mile away how F'ing loud is it then and would it be OK for little uns.

Where can I get some baby ear defenders? LOL the posts you see on SN :D

If it's anything like 3 F1 Tornado's flying directly overhead at about 30 ft then I would DEFINITLY recommend ear defenders, esp for babies / young children.

F1 Tornados ? What are they then ;)

You can get foam push in ear plugs from Halfords (look in the bike section). You may want to check they are not too big first though.

Problem is its hard enough keeping a sunhat on her, let alone earmuffs :) To say she objects to the doctor viewing her ears with the lightscope thingamy is an understatement, oh well.

I'm sure theres a display on the Saturday, I'll ask the parents Sat night about the noise and make a decision then to go or not.

Never seen an airshow apart from the red arrows at Silverstone, and a Russian fighter at Goodwood FOS so looking forward to it, ho hum...

she'll sleep right through it....

Failing that take 1 roll of cotton wool, 1 roll of gaffa tape ......... :D

Give me a ring - oh seven eight oh two three one five five seven five - and we can arrange for you to collect a couple of pairs of very soft foam earplugs. I'm just down the road.

Roll them up, pop them in and distract her for a sec while they expend. She won't even know they are there ;)

And yes, airshows are very loud. All small children should have ear protection IMHO...

I went to Farnborough a few yrs back and can deffo recommend wearing ear plugs... esp if u are close to the aircraft they are deafening.... also depends on the aircraft too...
The harrier jump jet left a ringing in my ears 4 ages.... felt like someone had set a bomb off nxt to my ear....

The buggers also shake your insides too!:)

GF found some ear muffs so she was actually thinking like Steve regarding taping some socks to them or something :cuckoo: but I'll be calling Simon tonight just incase that interesting tangent doesn't work.

Apparently its the Battle of Britain show so not many jets, however I'm sure a few will attend.

Well, bought some foam ear plugs and went over yesterday lunchtime, we'd just missed the harrier by the time we arrived.

The ear plugs worked for minutes at a time, and to be honest we were just far enough away not to need them - with the excellent red arrows display which lasted a good 20 mins or so, only twice did one fly over the house and they're not the noisiest of jets anyway.

The only other jet that came close was a Red Bull sponsered Vixxen (sp), close enough to read the advertising.

We left just before the 4 x F15's and a F16 arrived, according to our friends it was a good job we did since they were LOUD. Shame I didn't get to see them.

Anyway, BBQ, beer and a great display, lots of BoB stuff, a flying fortress, spitfires, hurricanes, loads of helicopters etc

The house backs onto fields, theres a public footpath that leads up to the airport, a half hour walk and we had views of the end of the runway, but too many trees and TBH the best views were back at the house, near the fridge and burgers!

Can't wait for next year :)

looks like a GR1 to me

yeah i couldn't find a pic of an F1 but is very similar, just the F1 has a longer, sleaker nose cone and as more geared towards air to air combat

Er, that'll be an F3 then ?

The F3 is not designed for air to air combat, its "G" rating is too low anyway. It is designed to shoot a missile from a distance to hit the enemy aircraft.

I should have thought a bit of duct tape and some soft pads would sort the ear muff problem out. :D

Also, she wasn't interested at all in the planes, all she wanted to do was play with Donald Duck :rolleyes:

9 month old babies, so unapprectiative of the efforts you go to :mad: ;)

And obviously very sensible if I might say so. :) Got her priorities sorted alright!
