Cheap (£50) DVD player with CDR/MP3 playback?
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a really cheap DVD player that will also player MP3's plus CDR's. Any suggestions? I've been looking on Empire Direct and ones such as the Samsung DVDP144 look ok. Anyone have one? http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...DVDP144&clear= tia Richard. |
i've got a Pacific from Asda, £35 and i plays MP3, dvd's (copies and originals)
not the pretiest thing in the world, but i've had no bother with it. |
Ah - good point. Most of the big supermarkets seem to be selling cheap players these days.
|
I bought the Mrs a Pacific one as well - does the job - and Asda do (or at least did) a 3 yr warranty on all electrical goods....
Can't go wrong. However - if I was doing it again, I may consider a DivX capable machine - which you can get for about 60 quid now - Like tha Umax 6600, 50 quid from BigPockets: http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product=PLA2003 Shades |
I've been looking at this one recently:
http://uk.special.reserve.co.uk/q_GG...r__yamada.html They don't get much cheaper than that, surely :D |
Good call on the DivX front - I'm getting a big tired of watching movies on my PC!
|
Evertime this thread comes up Asda always seems to get a mention...i think there is your answer.
|
Now I went off looking more closely at the damn DivX DVD player, surfed the BigPockets site a bit further and have just spent 20 quid on a 'Powerball Pro 250Hz' - which looks like fun. £19.99 from www.gajits.biz
Damn you for asking about DVD players and 'making' me go and spend more money on junk! ;) I just hope it arrives tomorrow......... |
Got to say Asda one does the job really well, slightly noisy though when it changes tracks or you jump scenes but for £30 you cant complain
|
|
BTW, I have a Powerball !! Good fun ! Set up a challenge at work.
|
www.aria.co.uk have had divx dvd players on special offer recently for about £40ish plus p&p...
|
another recommendation for the Pacific 1002 from Asda.
As mentioned above not the prettiest thing in the world but plays everything thrown at it. Other players seem very fussy when it comes to copies but not this baby. Myself and a few colleagues have this player and have no problems with it whatsoever. |
thanks again guys - might pay the local Asda a visit tomorrow for a wee look :)
|
I'm liking the look of these divx players, never seen them before. You might be able to tell i'm not exactly up to speed when it comes to electrical appliances :lol1:
|
try here, ive had 2 for around the house, they seem bullet proof upto now :)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...472361-9356410 jamo :D |
After lots of review reading I've ordered the Umax 6600 DiVX DVD from BigPockets: http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product=PLA2003
Quite a few films I download aren't in SVCD format so the general purpose DivX player would be good. It seems there are lots of new firmware upgrades as well. Thanks for the advice. Richard. |
looks like you have made a good choice to me!
do you use win mx? jamo :D |
Yeah, good choice mate - I keep thinking of relegating my Pioneer DV-530 to Ebay (which is about 4 inches high and never been the best player...) and buying a Umax 6600.... 1 inch high, sleek and plays anything and everything.
Should really practice what I preach I guess - stop buying toys and start buying better gadgets! |
Jamo - I used to use WinMX a lot and stuff like BitTorrent but I find that Usenet (newsgroups) gives you everything. I pay $14.99 a month for unlimited downloads from http://www.newshosting.com - very good retention and very fast. Great service.

Here's a site with all the Umax news and upgrades http://www.my-yamada.co.uk/
|
Well, the Umax 6600 DiVX DVD Player 5.1 arrived this morning and works a treat :)
MP3's, JPGs, SVCD, Mpegs, etc all work perfectly. Highly recommended. |
