Premium Rate Fraud - compensation from BT?
I have just been looking at a few posts after a friend got hit with a £750 bill for his modem dial up.
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...mium+rate+dial http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...mium+rate+dial BT say you have to pay the bill, although it could be paid in installments. Wouldn't BT be an accessory to the fraud, as they were the carrier and they transfered the funds to who ever created that virus or what ever it is? Shouldn't they be also part responsible for the bill? Any advice appreciated. thanks alan |
If you have a contract with BT for them to provide full unrestricted access to the PSTN network then why should BT pay for something that is not their mistake.
If your contract with BT was to restrict Premium rate numbers, then yes you have a case otherwise your friend will have to take the hit because it was his/hers fault for allowing the computer to dial the number. |
you could try http://www.icstis.org.uk/ icstis govern the issuing of premium rate numbers . As part of obtaining a number you have to fill out a six page application form and detail example adverts that sort of thing so if the provider has failed to do this maybe a case not sure.
good luck Gary |
