Can you still get Hella 1000FF HID aux lamps for classic scoob?
 

Now that Scoobysport don't do this HID lamp kit to replace the fog lights, is it available anywhere else?
If not would this work; Get the halogen equivalent (genuine Subaru fitment for the classic)from TSL then get the HID bulb kit from Autobulbsdirect, put the two together and bob's your uncle. Or am I missing something.
Has anyone tried it?
It's one way of getting this ulimate driving lamp set up all be it a bit expensive, but anything is better than the Cibie oscar+ H2 set up that I currently have.

The lamps are still available, since they are Hella parts, not Scoobysport.

What's NOT available are the brackets needed to fix them securely to the car:(:

You can't really do what you suggested, the rears of the HID lamps are different to the halogen ones, as well as the bulbholder. I would hesitate before going down the Prodrive fixing route too.

Hella also do some HID lights the same size as those on the P1, (they are the same lights), and Subaru do brackets for them. The come out at about the same as the Scoobysport ones. You'd also need the P1 type covers with smaller holes though, dunno how much they would be, try DRM.

The Hella lights are available form Hella dealers, Demon Tweeks etc. Or give Hella a ring and ask for customer services, they are very helpful, they'll give you part numbers etc.

As said the rear of the Hella HID 1000FFF lens is different to the Hella conventional bulb 1000FF lens as they are designed to take a standard flanged 3 screw HID bulb rather than a conventional clip in with a springy metal clip H-whatever type conventional bulb.

BUT the autolamps online HID's are not the normal flanged 3 screw HID bulbs as they are designed to be a aftermarket direct swop for the H-whatevers. So they would fit a conventional lens unit rather than an HID lens unit. So the bulb bit might work!!

You'd have to be careful there's enough space behind the bulb as the HID conversions have quite a lot of stuff behind the mounting flange and the wires come out straight back.

Don't know anything about the relative merits of prodrives mounting and Scoobysports mount though.

Scoobysport: * 4 screws held the lamp rigidly to specially made bracket.
* The bracket used the OE foglight bolts.
* Adjustment was not necessary.
* But could have been done by washers under boltheads.

Prodrive: * Lamp held to specially made bracket by single point fixing.
* Lacked rigidity and difficult to aim properly.
* Removal of lamp for bulb change etc lost all aim.........
* Bracket held to car by OE foglight bolts as above.

Thanks for the replies guys.
It was the fact that the autolamp hid bulbs were an after market fit for your standard H type bulb that put me onto my train of thought but will there be enough room behind the hella halogen lamp?
Would it be possible to get a mounting bracket made for the Hella lamp hid unit as Scoobysport must have done and was it similar to the bracket used for the cibie units?

Any competent welder could cut/weld you a bracket from 6mm mild steel plate, given something to copy.

Or you could ask for them made up in alloy or stainless?

The Hella HID units have a rectangular extension on the rear of the body, and the S/S bracket had a rectangular hole that accomodated it, and fixed it in via 4 self tapping screws.

If you're stuck, this next weekend I'll take one of mine off, and photograph and take measurements for the bracket. You'll have to bear in mind that the brackets need to be handed though, the left hand one is a mirror image of the right.

I'd expect a welder to charge you at least an hour's pay too, maybe more?

These brackets will vibrate a litlle so you have to reinforce them.

would be useful if I decide to go ahead with them. Perhaps you could e-mail them to me.
As you can tell I'd like to get the ultimate driving light set up and having gone down the S/S Cibie route and got fed up with the rusting lamp units & H2 bulbs, I wish I had gone for the S/S HID Hella's when they were still available.

I'll get my lad to have a look at the bracket, (as he's training to be a welder), with a view to looking at viability.

How do you think they compare with the Hella brackets in TTZZ's Hella link.
These are on their US web site so have e-mailed Hella GB to see if their available over here.
I would think the S/S ones hold the lamps a bit more firmly and do away with any vibration to the lamp, would I be right?

Absolutely. I had 1000FF's (halogen ones ), on those brackets, and they are AWFUL to set up. You have to set it by guesswork, try it, remove it from car, undo single mounting, set it by guesswork again, refit to car, try again etc etc etc:(: All in the dark:(:
Mine lasted 2 weeks before I sold 'em:mad:

Then when you get it set, (if ever), you get vibration because of the single point mounting, and if a bulb goes (vibration will help here:(: ), you have to start all over again with settings:(:

If you're making your own there's no contest.
If you want the best, there's no contest.
If you have difficulty with the cutout hole, I reckon I could dismantle one enough to take EXACT dimensions etc and e-mail/post 'em to you.
