Iraq Currency?

Any thoughts on this...http://www.betoniraq.com/

I suppose given the massive amount of their currency you can buy with ours it would be an interesting way to spend some cash! $40=25,000 dinars so by that logic you could get around and about 30,000 dinars for £30! Quite possibly a waste of money but if in 5 years time their economy recovered enough that the dinars were actually worth anything the multiplication is such that your £30 would be a heck of a lot more!

more likely to keep plumeting. . .

still, might be worth a punt

The US Dollar is the only currency worth anything in Iraq..........and yes, I speak from very recent experience!

Slightly off topic

... but the big money spinner must be re-building Police Stations in Baghdad

...every news report you hear says that another one has been blown up. I mean... How many can they have left

PS FX boys at work say 'forget it' as a potential currency hedge and you'd be better putting your money in Peugeot V6 engines ;)

LMAO @ sipie :D I'll keep peugeots engine construction team busy :D

We've lost more police stations in this country since good ole Tone came to power....never mind post offices! :D

Chances are that when there are free elections the money will all be re-issued with something to distance itself from the old regime. They'll also probably revalue at the same time so that you don't need a wheelbarrow to do a grocery shop.

Old current notes come in and get swapped. Which is a bugger if you're in the UK and speculating with this suitcase full ofcash...

This is almost certainly what will happen. The old currency most probably will never bounce back, just get converted to something else. Betting 50 quid for a laugh might be fine, but this is no investment.

I'll guarantee it - happened to me in Russia twice, 1993 and 1998. Old notes are simply kept as souvenirs.
