Speaker Advice, please

Hi,

Could anyone give me some advice on what speakers to fit into my95Uk impreza saloon.

At the moment i've got the standard speakers and a pioneer 4x50w output CD player. Granted the sound is ok, but i must admit i do like all kinds of music ranging from R&B - Pink Floyd - Funky house music - jazzy chillout and occasionally i do appreciate a little volume, so i would need speakers that could cope.

As for cash to spend, dont mind paying a bit, but not into the hundreds of £'s.

So what can ya do . . . . . . . . .

Any help much appreciated

cheers brent

I'm running Alpine 6.5" components up front in custom built pods (yet to be finished off 14 months after starting).

Looking and pioneer or Alpine 6.5" coaxials for the parcel shelf.

try something like jbl or infity, the former tend to be more bass orientated whilsdt the latter more neutral in sound.

Boston Acoustics are what i use, and im impressed with them... Focals are also highly reconmended...

to be honest, anything will improve the sound over the stock speakers. just choose your budget and go from there.... but i'd try and stear clear of the like of Sony and Kenwood, its imo, but i dont think they offer a good sound for their money. plenty out there are better.

you may have to add spacers to anyupgraded speakers mind....

I see a lot of threads on here about speakers, but few, if any replies tell you to do what you would do with a set of Hi Fi speakers: go out and listen to some.

I went into my local Halfrauds, where they have a switchable display, saw the manager, and ended up with my youngest and me playing with it for about half an hour. I switched it to front round types first, then rear 9x6's, then when I'd narrowed it down to a few, got my lad to effect switching, while I listended blind.

I made sure that the input was by a headunit very similar to mine, (same model, just newer),

My final choice were both Sony, strangely enough, I just liked the sound:D:

I have Sony 17cm 3-way units in the doors, using home made MDF spacers , but totally covered by the door card, and Sony 9x6 3 way units on the rear parcel shelf, again with home made MDF spacers, this time with carpet glued to them, and using the OE Sony grilles.

Car is a '98UK 4 door.

whats everyone else running?

The alpine units I have would have dropped straight into the existing holes in the doors. The only reason for going custom pods is to angle the sound a little better.
