cheap runaround please

as above, i am now looking for a cheap runaround, i have moved buildings with my job and now have no secure car parking and i have invested too much money in my impreza for some wee ballroot to steal it and kill themselves in it. I would prefer a derv model. has to be really cheap i.e. <£1k(basically just has to go). no interest in gadgets, comfort etc. someone has suggested a ford escort 1.8D estate. anyone have any thoughts on this.

cheers

My colleague at work runs an Escort 1.8D van. Very cheap to run, insurance is peanuts, exactly what you say you need. He likes it, and I've just found out, he sold it for £300, taxed till the end of the month, 6 mths MOT. Could do a lot worse than look for something similar.

My brothers car is forsale, £1500 - 1995 Peugeot 306 d slalom edition, 5 door diablo red metallic (dark red), 2 owners FPSH - 65000 miles, 12 months MOT tax till 9/04. I started using it on monday to save some cash and miles on the M3. But unfortunatly i went into the back of someone yesterday morning. A very slow impact, but needs a light glass and (£29+VAT from dealer) and a grill (purley for asthetics, but doesn't NEED one). This car i will do for £1000 as is - let me know

Sorry folks

I am just seeing what others think of other models. I live in Belfast so thanks to those who have offered cars for sale but it just aint practical for me to collect them unless they live close.

@reffo - exactly what i am looking for.

cheers

You cant go too wrong with a Rover 200 diesel, cost next to nothing to insure, service, run......

Although flat caps are pretty expensive ;)

I think you forget looking for a certain type of car, just go and look at heaps near you and try to find a good one - ford, pug, VW, whatever.
