What would you buy for £10000/£12000?

Had them all two scoobs, evo6, M5, cossy,clio172, Vr6,etc etc, needs to be a bit of fun with sensible running costs as it will be used every day. Thanks

I love threads like this - my choice of cars would be as follows:

Hot hatch: Clio 172 CUP
Diesel Hatch: Lupo TDI Sport
Medium Diesel Hatch: Golf GTTDIPD 150
Medium Hatch: Seat Leon Cupra R
Saloon car: Volvo S70R
Diesel saloon: BMW 330d Sport
Big player: BMW M5
Diesel player: Merc E320 CDI
Coupe: Jag XKR
4x4: Range Rover Vogue 4.6 (Y reg ish)

Silly 'look at me' option.

Early Clio V6 ?!?!
Skyline GT-R (R34/R33)

I'd be tempted by an R33 or high mile P1 but I think the M3 Evo would get my vote.

Mick 14 September 2004 10:45 AM

Guys... Are all these vehicles available for less than £12,000? :eek2:

Octavia RS or 4x4...

Andrew Dixon 14 September 2004 11:19 AM

Seat Ibiza Cupra ... and a trip to Jabbasport. Result? A reliable 350bhp fwd hatch! :D

M3 Evo. 12k, get you a "good" one.

Emms 14 September 2004 12:39 PM

Threre is no way on this earth you will get a GTR 34 (or even a 33 for 12k).

GTR 34 at least £27k
GTR 33 at least £15 (17 for a decent import 19 for a UK model).

You would get a decent R32 for 10-11 (93 model). I would go for a Honda Civic Type-R Integra or an Accord Type-R, but then I am biased as my husband has a CTR.

:)

Do you have copious amounts of shares in Japanese car manufacturers??? ;)

(Just kidding)

I pointed this out - i don't know my skylines that well. As for your choice:

Honda Civic Type-R - Too common
Integra Type-R - Too harsh
Accord Type-R - Too boring

Sorry Emms, i know you like ur jap stuff - just MHO

crofty 14 September 2004 02:02 PM

Thanks everybody, lots of food for thought!, keep em comming. Andy

Midmotorsteve 14 September 2004 03:00 PM

late MR2 turbo or Mazda RX7

tiggers 14 September 2004 04:00 PM

Integra Type R DC2.

Reasonable running costs, reasonable MPG, very reliable - some nice examples around for reasonable money. Insurance can be a bit steep though, but the car is worth it.

Ignore the too harsh comment above - all depends what you want. If you place creature comforts first then the DC2 is not for you - if you want performance and handling for a reaosnable budget - go for it.

Have you driven their demo car ? its a hoot - the reason why i got the kit put on my golf

0-100 in 10.5 seconds , with a 0-60 of only 5.5
thats a 2 seconds faster than an M3 even with the slower 0-60
name a another car that goes from 60-100 quicker than it goes from 0-60
Peloquin LSD for £400 is highly recommended though

shamrock 14 September 2004 04:18 PM

name a another car that goes from 60-100 quicker than it goes from 0-60

McLaren F1
Aston Martin Vantage Supercharged
Lamborghini Diablo SE30 Jota
Porsche Carrera GT
Dodger Viper Venom 600
Koenigsegg CC8S
Ferrari Enzo
Mercedes SLR McLaren
Edonis
Mercedes CL 65 AMG

you get the picture :)

60-100 in 5 secs is very impressive, that's right up there with the 360 Modena:D

Paulo P 14 September 2004 04:26 PM

I'd buy a Lotus Carlton  Ok you wouldn't get the best one available for that money but you would be buying an appreciating classic and one hell of a car ;)

Nope :( But I have read loads about Bill Brockbank's Jabba'ed Ibiza and it sounds like a whole lot of fun! Seem to remember seeing a video of it embarrassing a 360 Modena ....

Your Golf sounds pretty damn impressive too! How would it work as a daily driver?

thanks
used daily up till a few weeks ago when i bought a little smart car

No problem, very docile - potters around like any other shopping trolley
very progressive power deliver, no big turbo bang - just starts pulling at approx 3000 rpm and doesn't stop until 7500
chassis copes with it pretty well very rarely get any torque steer even with the Lsd. Racelogic + boost controller takes care of things in the wet

On topic
I would get an Octavia 4X4 and give it the jabba treatment - great stealth machine

Fair do's ma dear, but to be honest it's out of necessity. As a nurse the last thing I want to do is be stuck at gawd knows what time in the a.m in a broken down..Lotus, BMW, Merc, TVR, MG, Anything French..etc etc...you see the idea (yes I know the CTR is UK but the main bits are shipped over from the land of the rising sun). I want my fun yet I want to be able to get there. As for CTR too common how so? Less common by far than Clio's, Scoobies and so on. If I had to have non japanese I would have a Focus RS, or even an Escort Cossworth both Good cars IMHO (especialy the Cossie).
