i dont want to drill any more holes then the standard ones it comes with (will this be a problem??) also any tips before i attempt to fit it, ive also been given loads of foam strips to stick to the underneith of the spoiler also what are the black tie wrap thingys you get with it X2 of???

posted in here for quick replys before it gets moved (sorry mods)

many thanks

I've put the STI6 spoiler on my MY96 classic, it's a copy, but it uses the existing holes in the boot lid, so you don't have to drill anymore holes, unless there are 2 studs in the middle of the spoiler, in which case you'll need to drill 2 corresponding holes.

the cable ties are for securing the brake light wire

it sounds the same as yours (4 bolts) - did you use any extra sealer?

I did put silicon sealant around the bolt holes, just to make sure I don't get leaks, and used the foam strips close to the edges so it seals, but is not visible

is your spoiler an ebay special? only asking coz i got one and to say the fit was fcuking awful would be an understatement.

when i tried it on the bootlid the shape of it was well out, it bowed up in the middle leaving an inch gap:eek:

a tube of sikaflex later and it's on, but i'm not happy with the gaps now showing black sealant, but after 4 hours trying to get it to fit i'd had enough.

oh, and the holes didn't line up either.

worth checking on your bootlid for fit before you get it painted etc, coz if a paint shop have to piss about with yours as much as mine needed to fit, they're gonna charge you a fortune:mad:

Mine came from GradeA. Delivered by 9am the morning after I rang at 2.30pm to order it, it's fit was superb.:):

It's a copy, but looks the dog's.

I fitted it with existing bolt holes and plenty of CicaFlex.

mate, this is where i got mine from.

if you can, take your existing spoiler off (if it's an original i can talk you thru it if you don't know how to get it off) and try the new one on. being fibreglass i may have had a rogue fitting one and yours may be fine.

but honestly mate, i would do as much as you can to check the fit before it's painted, among other issues the brake light and 'bar' on the bottom was an awful fit.

i'm not a painter/fitter so it took me a bit longer than a pro may take, but i spent a fair bit of time filling blow holes etc before it went off to the paint shop, and i still missed loads:(

really don't want to piss on your fireworks coz the actual look of the spoiler and visual effect on the car is awesome, just try to do what you can to avoid the grief i had:)

The moral to this story, is don't fit a hideous spoiler to your car in the first place :)

very nice alcazar -

ive just removed my standard spoiler and neary took my eye out when the boot flew open

anyway as i was on my own so i couldnt bolt it on -- on my own so i lined it up best i could and i think it looks the dogs in the middle there is about a 3mm gap but dont forget ive not put the foam edging on yet

i will bolt it on propaly before it gets painted girlfriend will have to hold it

but wow it sets the back end off bigtime

how delacate are these copys as i dont want to tighten it up to tight and end up snapping it?

glad to hear (sort of;) ) that it was just me that had a ****ter.

fibreglass is nice and bendy mate, you won't break it:) i bent mine about an inch in the end and had no problems.

sounds like i had a proper fcuking friday afternoon special, but my bolt holes were way out aswell, and the profile on the ends was a bit **** aswell.
only saying all this coz it may be worth running some sillicone sealer around any gaps to stop water getting in:)

does look massive though don't it?:D i went from an STI V5 copy spoiler and this thing dwarfs it:D:D

Scoobyverysoon,
I would warn that you do not let the spray company put it in a low bake oven, if there are any air bubbles in the laminating of the fibregalss layers these will expand and cause blisters in the nice new shiny paint and your paint shop would have to do it all over again (very expensive).
I thought decent paintshops knew never to low bake GRP for this reason, are you sure they no what they are doing?

I've just fitted the Sti Spoiler to my 99 model, had to drill about 6 holes. Looks good though

considerin the sizeI thought it best to use all the pre drilled holes on the wing, also the wing was slighty bent more than the boot lid, so the other hole tightened it nicely
