Can induction kit damage engine
 

Hey Lads ive heard some people say that these can cause engine trouble and damage your car. Anyone ever have a problem with them and have many people got thaem fitted.

They can contaminate the MAF sensor (mainly MY99 and MY00) with can lead to lean running and ultimately a popped engine if it's not spotted.
I have an MY99 with a K&n 57i (considered the only safe choice by many) and have had to replace the maf. Whether it was down to the filter or the fact it was 5 years old i don't know :D

Mine made my inlet temp go up by 14 degrees so it had to go and be replaced by a green cotton filter.

Depending where they are fitted, they can also be drawing in warm air from the engine bay rather than cold external air which has a detrimental effect.

I've just bought a pipercross filter for my 02 wrx (second hand). Should I fit it or is it going to cause me more problems than its worth.

The induction side is one of the things that subaru seem to have got right....... :D

With an STi panel filter etc (I use a K&N, not ITG) 300 plus BHP seems fine although a bit quiet !!

Without fail an induction kit will lead to big repair bills as will dump valves that release to atmosphere !

Why will an atmos DV lead to more repair bills? Surely it will make the turbo last longer rather than shorter as it stops the turbo from stalling.

i phoned up a few scooby tuners and most have said that the fitting of an induction kit is unwise as it can in turn make your engine run lean and cause detonation so on mine i use the original, my car is a my99 uk spec my maf sensor gave out on me 2 months ago and i dint have any other filter but the original type fitted ( fixed on warranty)
