Richard Burns Rally on PC

Pretty impressed upto now

apart from my driving that is :), Rally School seems pretty good, and the graphics are pretty good too

need to get plenty of practise in now :D

Bonehead 12 September 2004 11:33 AM

So it's pretty good then?

Thats a relief - i've just ordered it!

Pumpkin 12 September 2004 11:43 AM

Many people won't like it as it is difficult, esp compared to Colin McRae. My advice, treat the controls very gently, especially the brake and go slightly slower than you think you can.

Iwan 12 September 2004 11:48 AM

Blinding game, very hard to play on a keyboard though.

I feel a steering wheel coming on!

SC008Y_MAD 12 September 2004 12:04 PM

so is the game out?? what formats?? PC, PS2??

Pumpkin 12 September 2004 12:07 PM

been out on a console format for a few weeks, now released on pc.

Steering wheel essential.

*Sonic* 12 September 2004 12:08 PM

Yep, steering wheel is a must

I have a Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Steering Wheel

I replaced the spring in the brake pedal, for a squash ball, to give me progressive braking :)

edited to add, my PC is a lowly Celeron 1Ghz with 256 Mb Ram, and a Gainwad Geforce 4200 Gfx card, and it still runs reasonably well :)

Jeez, my mobile phone has a better spec than that ;)

Much prefer the PC version to the Xbox one, game controls feel more realistic, possibly because the wheel is bolted to a desk rather than held between my legs. Plus the PC version is a steal at 17 quid from Play

I wish there were more tarmac sections. In the quick rally section there are about 4 gravel rallies, 1 tarmac and 1 snow.

This is awesome. The game dynamics are spot on, best car handlin engine on the scene imo. It is tough as its pretty close to real life. Proper braking realism, proper weight shifting effects, left foot braking, lift off turn in, Scandanivian flicks, power slides, proper handbrake, it will actually spin if you dont correct the car properly, donuts :D good damage engine, its all there, very nice indeed.

However, it keeps crashing on me, I'm a bit stumped as to why, sometimes to desktop sometimes a complete lockup. I have AMD64 3400+ Raddy 9800XT, 1gig twinmos Ram, 230gb in maxtor hdds, game is on sata.

Neanderthal 22 September 2004 11:24 AM

Another fan here. Absolutely awesome game, handling is spot on. Gfx aren't the best but I'm willing to forgive that for the fantastic handling phsyics!
To get the most of out it though you do need to play it with a wheel.

swaussie 23 September 2004 11:55 AM

this game ROCKS. It is extremely difficult after playing CMR but what should I expect from a very realistic sim. What other game do you need to perfect the Scandanavian Flick, left foot braking and power slides to pass the final driving test, 3 nights and I am still trying to get under the 80 second mark :D

Only wish it had th rally of Finland without the snow! Needs some of the real WRC rounds IMHO but you forget that when you start driving.

bioforger 23 September 2004 12:01 PM

Doing the actual rallies well is super hard :) Each stage needs a day of practise at least. Great game this, a real challenge.

bioforger 23 September 2004 01:44 PM

Swaussie yeh tell me about it, I havent got under 1:21 yet ;)

Neanderthal 23 September 2004 03:29 PM

The AI on the snow stages is a bit off. Have been struggling to win the other preceeding rallies yet won the Snow one easily, despite practically writing the car off on the 2nd stage and not having enough time in service to fix it completely!!

speedstermick 23 September 2004 08:43 PM

ive just got this game

ive just got this game.

mick.

ps.otherwise game is prob brill.

Neanderthal 24 September 2004 10:15 AM

Mick, yesterday SCI released a patch that helped with some crashing isssues.
Haven't got the link but do a search on SCI's web page.

Had a go on my first tarmac stage last night...having just been on the fast flowing US stages it's so tight and twisty, I think I ended up a minute and a half slower than the stage record and frankly quite surprised the car made it though the stage still running!

flat4 24 September 2004 03:00 PM

blackholemotorsports.com have some useful utilites on there aswell as proper car skins instead of these privateer paintjobs

as McD's say, i'm lovin' it :D

Monkeh 24 September 2004 07:11 PM

Mine only crashes when i have motherboard monitor running ? thats no big probllem for me.

But the most annoying thing with this game is that you can only have 3 car setups ? WTF with all those settings you would expect to be able to keep more than 3 setups ?

I'm gonna send them an email asking for it to be upped in the next patch :(
