Help - Which Wireless Router should I buy??
 

I am about to order an all in one adsl wireless router but cannot decide which one to get, the two I have been looking at are the Netgear DG834Gv2 and Linksys WAG54G.

Can anybody recomend a better one or which of the two mentioned is the better buy?

I've recently bought the DG834G V2.....

Didn't realise it was the V2 version..

Tis slightly smaller than the V1, White and does not come with fitting to allow you to mount it on the wall...... does come with some nice little legs though :)

It's easy to use and install and use (even I can do it - LOL)

Gives a good wireless signal around my modest 3 bed Semi.......... and I can surf at the bottom of my garden.....

I was dissapointed that it was white (wanted silver) and the fact that It did not have the fixings to allow wall mounting....... (coz I had a V1 and mounted on the wall - now I have 2 screws and a HUGE hole where I run the cable through :eek2: )

Haven't used any other brand of router, but would imagine they are much of a muchness??!?!?!?!

I've got a US Robotics USR9106 and it's been great, no problems with it at all.

Ive got a usr9106 at work and it's ****e! The firewall and port forwarding configuration is just appaling, well we are gonna dump it and buy something that works! At home I have a d-link dsl-604t superb configuration and lots of options and cheap too! http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=110551

Um, well i upgraded the firmware on mine recently and the port forwarding has become much easier. But overall it's been great, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Maybe you got a lemon?

maybe iwan, but ive been onto usr support on more than 1 occassion, in terms of setting up port forward dmz etc. its just does not work properly, the d-link in comparison works a treat, I would never buy a usr again or recommend one, do a search on google newsgroups and you find lots of posts from people having problems with it.

Draytek look good but twice the price of others...

Think I may get the Netgear DG834Gv2 as it seems to have the least bad reviews written about it.

Yeh I got the netgear DG834G to, works nice, setup took 5mins. However my ancient old laptop won't pull more than 4kb/s (once I saw 10kb/s) from it connected wirelessly via USB WG111 adapter, its a P2 400 with 64mb ram running Win98se :O See told u it was ancient. My wireless signal is good, anywhere from 80-90% and rate never seems to drop below 11mbps. Net connection is bulldog 1mbit. Desktop AMD64 PC running XP Pro SP2 which the router is connected to, has zero problems maxxing out the bandwidth. Any ideas why the laptop has crap throughput?

I have a USR router too, and a dlink for backup. The dlink is much easier to set up, although I have had no problems with the USR once done.

BT.com shop are doing Netgear DG834G for £96.99 with free USB2 wireless unit and free next day delivery. Also if you did free draw you got a 10% code off your order. I got one and it was a piece of cake to set up in under 30 minutes.

Just got a new DG834Gv2 with a free laptop card for £90, and top marks for looks as it is a nice white finish with a stand that holds it vertically.

Very pleased, just hope it performs aswell as it looks.
