Do I need a new Clutch?

As I was driving my MY96 Impreza Turbo this morning, and accelerating on the motorway, the clutch seemed to start slipping. Basically, in third and fourth gear, as the speed rises whilst accelerating, once the revs reach a certain point, they rise rapidly, without a corresponding increase in engine speed.

I've also noticed a slight mechanical noise whilst changing gears?

Is a new clutch needed?

If so, can anyone recomend anyone in the Windsor/Bracknell Area to perform the job?

Pongo, it sounds like it. My clutch died very quickly last week! I had the symptoms you've described, loss of power when accelerating (the revs still rose, sometimes erratically), but then the clutch lost bite and the pedal went spongy very quickly. RIP old clutch! I had a new one fitted locally for £300 + VAT. It takes 3-4 hours labour so don't go to the stealership to have it done.

I also supplied the mechanic with 4 litres of Syntrax gearbox oil and treated my gearbox at the same time. It feels like a new car (MY00). :D

I had some clutch slip on mine in 4th and 5th a while ago - only did it occasionally and then stopped. Must have been a year or so now and the clutch is fine ! If its doing it all the time then guess it is new clutch time.

Yep Pongo first sign off clutch on the way out. Happened to me back in March, same symptoms. Even when i tried putting the car in first gear with handbrake on it stalled the engine, only slipped in 3rd and 4th when boost came on.Sorry to give u the bad news mate.

I have found a few references to rally colin in Reading (07771767874 ) - Anyone know if he does clutches too?

Yep he does, he is well respected for his work and if you put his name in search they will all be good reports.. :)

Colin sorted my Clutch today (& did an oil change too!) - It feels like a new car!

All I need to do now is get the Oil leak & power steering pump leak sorted that he spotted!

\highly recommended.
