FE TD05 on a 95 Wrx Wagon??

Hi Guys!! As above I am thinking about replacing The standard TD04 for the TD05. Would I have to stick with the 90 degree in or could it take a front entery?? if yes what would I need to do this. Also thinking of a Unichip to map for uk fuel and new turbo. All advice welcome.

Thanks Mark...

You will need to raise your inlet manifold on spacer blocks and remove the solid metal fuel feed pipes and reroute them in rubber/aeroquip hose. You may also need to change the power steering pump reservoir for the later type and move your header tank. A remap will be mandatory after doing this.

What would be the gain over the 90deg version??

jonny gav 26 August 2004 07:41 PM

its not worth the hassle to be honest, TD05 with 90 deg can make over 380bhp with the right mods(done by Alan Bell's my96 uk turbo)!

my car is still on the 90 deg but with an TD05/06 20g and makes 419bhp.

Would the TD05 Be a straight swap? where could I get a TD05/06 20g? How does this compare to the standard TD05? Sorry about all the questions but I only want to do this once.. Thanks again for the advice...

you are best off starting by getting a standard TD05 and a ECU from a wrx saloon.

ecu's to look out for are Z4,W6,U8.

that will give you a healthy power increase.(Z4 260PS/W6,U8 240PS) you need to run optimax or a least super with these ecu's.

if you decide to go further its possible to have the TDO5 turbo converted to a TD05/06 20G by andy f.

to run this turbo you will need at least a mappable ECU like an Apexi power fc or a link/gems.

there are a lot of other things to consider before the turbo upgrade though.

like-

full de-cat exhaust
uprated fuel pump
uprated fuel pressure regulator
bigger intercooler
bigger injectors
free flowing air filter
headers( ported or tubular)

and some other things that i may have forgotten........like good brakes :D

hope this helps

It is also possible to map the standrd ecu's to cope with all your mods, if you can get the chips and right person to do it :).

Do remember on the japanese ecus they ARE mapped for 100RON etc and do require octane booster unless you remap.

Otherwise detonation can and WILL occur.

I use Miller All the time any way so no problem there.. Do you have to have a full de-cat? I have only got the front cat left in at the moment.. uprated fuel pump and
uprated fuel pressure regulator are going on soon what sort of pressure should they be running?? Are the headers needed to start with or would the oem's be ok? What size injectors would be needed? I only want about 300 :) Bhp... I would like to keep a topmount Intercooler for less lag are there others other than the APS?? Thanks for all the advice :notworthy:

Standard headers, injectors and intercooler will be ok if your target is 300. I would try and get the headers ported though as this can really help with spool up. Upping the fuel pressure will take a little strain off the injectors as they will be pretty much maxed out otherwise. Chaning the downpipe for a decat will help turbo spool in the midrange no end, but you will need to find an MOT friendly garage to get you through the emissions test. A FMIC does not mean more lag, the PACE FMIC is good because you don't have to cut the front bumper and can keep aircon if you have it, but there are plenty more to chosse from out there. The Lateral Performance one is the dogs, but probably OTT for what you are trying to achieve.

Thanks!! What are the thoughts of the Unichip?? Would this be any good??

Yes it does I'm afraid ! I have plenty data to back this up.
Not such a big issue in a road car, only when you go racing against the clock will it become an issue !
