think I have broken my drivetrain

I think I have damaged my drive train. Getting some play in the drive, jacked up one wheel today and got someone to turn the wheel back and to. There is slack in the system, can hear a clunking noise coming from the universal jount on the drive shaft where it meets the rear diff. Cant feel any play in the joint its self though. the noise is definatley coming from there, or very near to there, as I had my ear right next to it. Anyone haVE ANY IDEAS? COULD SOMETHING JUST BE LOOSE? OR DO i NEED A NEW DRIVE SHAFT. my01 jdm wrx tHANKS, rOB. |
TBH Rob it will make a noise like that...
It is just taking up the slack (very little) and will make a slight noise form where the shaft goes into teh hub. Jack up the other side and it should make the same noise. Fronts are usually have the most play Rob |

Rob , there should be virtually no play in that section of the shaft, yes the driveshafts will have slack in them but only a bit, the UJ has probably been subjected to one to many full bore launches and is starting to give up the ghost.
I believe you can get them reconditioned, somebody on here should know or try Grade A for a replacement. Zippy |

Look in your yellow pages, and see if there is someone who specialises in propshafts (the bit you are refering to) and see if they can repair it.
Is it bolted to the diff tightly, and is the centre hanging bracket (halfway down propshaft) bolted up tight. These can also cause play in the system. |
