getting hitched - need suit
unfortunately no time left for a tailored effort.
have to be off the peg, with a bit of adjustment. i'm thinking Paul Smith (it isn't going to be a formal wedding, obviously) but i don't really know anything about suits. last one i bought for a job interview (years ago) was Jeager and it seemed ok. however, i'd like something a bit more special for this occasion. any ideas? tia. :) |

Paul Smith look good if you are reasonably slim, but not for the biscuit lovers amongst us. Hugo Boss are pretty versatile, and well made. Also, worth having a look at Austin Reed, bit geriatric, but they are well made and good value for money. |
I'm 6'3" with 34" waist - i'm not exactly skinny but not mitchelin man either.
as for budget - i haven't got much idea what to expect. i was expecting to get suit/shirt/tie for less than a grand, i suppose. saved a bit of money on the missus' outfit by sending her down to TK Max with £50 in her pocket. ;) |
Paul Smith do an off the peg/adjusted range, a mate had one for his wedding last month. Looked top drawer.
Westboune House I think would be the right place. Steve |
cheers - there's a PS shop near Bank that I could get to quite easily. i think i'll get down there and take a look.
:) |
True, Paul Smith will look good, and definitely within budget.
|
I got married in January in a new Paul Smith. Had it fine tuned to my build though.
I looked pretty good even if I do say so myself ;) It looks better cut wise than my Boss one |

Got a Paul Smith tie while I was in the PS shop though! If you want a decent shirt that fits well, try a Prada one - got mine from Harrods (went nicely with my Prada shoes :-). |

Given this is Scoobynet, I'm surprised we've not seen the "I got married in a Subaru WRC team jacket" yet.... :D

so where do you go to look at ralph laurent & stuff?
as previously mentioned; due to my amazing organisational skills ;) there isn't that much time left. would selfridges do that sort of gear? i managed to order the wedding rings today, so i haven't totally f*cked up. the bloke said he would "rush them through" so they'll be ready in 10 days time. pheww. <wipes sweat from brow> |
Your username is quite appropriate then, isn't it :D
You're certainly in danger of looking like one on the day....hehehehe |

Zegna, Ralph Lauren, Boss, Armani, and even Paul Smith, can all be found in Selfridges/Harvey Nichols/Harrods, so pop along to any of these, possibly Selfridges given the choice of one, and you should be well on your way. |

went to selfridges yesterday. last time i went there i was about 10 years old; i'd forgotten how massive the place is. so i go into the men's formal wear bit, wander around, wander out again. fookin hell, there's a lot of geezers selling suits in there - where are you supposed to start?
i decided that i needed to prepare myself a bit better, so i retired to a local hostelry and had a couple of stiff drinks. suitably refreshed, i went back in and, for some reason, went straight to Armani. basically said to the chap "i'm getting married - sort me out." and he did. ended up with suit, shirt, cufflinks and 2 ties (to avoid potential clash with bride's outfit, which hasn't been chosen yet - and you think i'm the disorganised one?). then went next door and bought shoes. then went downstairs and bought some aftershave. ended up a little bit over budget but at least it's all sorted. plus i now look vaguely like a gangster. :) |
34" waist you sure about that PC??? just kidding mate. all the best BB:) |

the best wedding gear can be found in Mister Byrites (sp?)
couple this ben elton sparkley number with a pair of Tesco, sensible brogues, which have all the pliability of a house brick, few pairs of Donnay socks (from the cheapo section of the sports warehouse) a shirt from Pollards (get a cotton nylon mix for extra disco static cling and ironability) couple of bottles of old spice, some Hi karate deodorant, denim talc, basildon market cufflinks (with west ham on them) and you're all set. plus you'll have change from £20.00 i'll get me burberry cap.... BB:) |

Classic suit. Classic timeless photos. Always the best option. it's plain black, single breasted, slightly tapered. can't imagine that it will date that quickly. |
