Kids PC has porn links on it!!!!!
 

My daughters PC has load of pop ups and all that sort of thing going on. It's trying to dial what looks like a porn site. Have loaded and ran Spybot, and it finds loads of dodgy problems.

Is there any decent free software, that will stop the pop ups and protect my kids. Fcuking morons, why do poeple do this. Children are 10,8,6 and 4 FFS.

Just as a check you do have a firewall installed? Some, such as Norton Personal Firewall will block mallicous pages, popups and script as well as preventing adware spybots etc. Once it's been configered properly!
(Although I don't 100% recommend Norton as it causes me too many headaches - there's better out there for the money)

Also makes sure you version of windows and browser have been fully updated (windows update) as that will help stop diallers getting in.

Get the following to (both free)

1) Ad-aware
2) Kerio Personal Firewall

There is some sofware called NetNanny..this will stop all this crap !...NetNanny is. as far as i am aware is the best....

As mentioned - if spybot has missed the spyware, try adware (lavasoft) between these two you should be able to remove most adware / spyware. Quite a few of the premium virus checkers have ad removal software now, and lots have parental controll, as do many firewalls.

It is alarming, and I can understand your concern, but it's not just porn sites that put in spyware, all kinds of places on t'interweb put rubbish on your computer, even the reputable ones. I don't surf for porn (although I have) and I know what gets left in your system. If you've never run spybot or adware, then it's always a bit stressing when you first see how many little buggars have invited themselves on your PC. But it should be easily removed and if you monitor it, and clean regularly it wont' build up so much. It's like the first time you put a firewall on and see the constant stream of probes on your system is quite alarming initially! :)

I havne't had a dialer for a long time, (I havne't got a DU modem, so just as well) but I did hear on the news that it's a huge problem in this country, people are wasting millions with these rogue programs auto-dialing premium rate numbers. I don't mean to make it worse :) but just to let you know it's a big problem - you're not alone.

Along with adware, have you got decent virus and firewall protection? This will reduce this.

A friend of mine recently got a phone bill for £450 from one of these rogue diallers. Although it used a BT line, the company in question is based in Romania. No chance of compensation there then & BT are not interested.

Been away on holiday. I installed Zonealarm and Norton AV on the machine months ago....

Remove all the reference to this sites from registry

On the right pane will be alist of all the programs that run on the machine especially when booted-up.

Delete unnecessary files, then set your firewall to block all these programs from running.
In your browser, change your security to medium and customise not to allow activeX components from installing also block cookies if you can. You can also block your internet access from porn sites if you know the ip address/site url.
Privacy: un tick override handling cookies
Content: move the slider to high.

Changing your browser from IE to Firefox might help a little, as that does have blocking facilites in it, plus any dialers that exploit holes in IE won't find the same holes in Firefox.
