how do i convert 12v DC to 18v DC?

<dr nick voice> hi everybody! </dr nick voice>

well, stepping down voltages is easy with nice and cheap little chips (50p) to get from upto ~ 35v -> 12,9,5 etc at 1-2amps, but what if I need to go the other way?

Anyone got a schematic for a charge pump? type circuit. it will need to take in 12v and provide 18v with 2A max drain.

cheers
steven

Try a google on "power inverter"

You should be able to do this with a power inverter, although you will sacrifice current in order to gain the voltage...

Steven,

Download the National Semiconductor "Switchers made simple" software - it'll do the circuit design for you...

Or just buy an off the shelf DC - DC converter module. Make sure the current ratings are suitable for you application.
