Another relaxing evening in the big smoke. Time to move?
 

Here I am trying to do some work in my humble home, drinking a coffee and enjoying a smoke.

And now it has all been totally disturbed by a Police helicopter circling around, and around my area, and loads of police cars racing up and down, dogs the lot.

It should give me a warm feeling inside to know the police so diligently searching for crim’s, probably little wee chav-sh1ts from the estate behind joy-riding again most probably. But it doesn’t, it just pisses me off, and makes me feel like moving to the country. Perhaps that’s cause I have already had 30 mins road rage filled minutes of commuting in the car on greater London’s bulging roads, being cut up and generally given bad vibes, and the sanctuary of my home has been intruded by a police helicopter searching all the gardens in the area with ground assistance – nice.

I can’t help thinking I can’t live here for ever, it’s stressful, over populated, everyone is in a hurry, but getting anywhere fast is always a slow process. At this stage of my career, it’s not worth pursing anywhere but London, sadly, however, as I become a bigger fish and the pond gets smaller, moving away, or at least being a distance and commuting some days of the week and working from home is a distinct possibility.

Where to live though?

Would be quite nice to have some back roads again, and somewhere to actually play with a car, but still close enough to civilization and transport links to the big smoke.

Any suggestions, anyone live somewhere nice that’s commutable to London?

If I earn serious cash, the west coast of Conrwall would be good, country lanes, surf, mountain biking, and an airport at Newquey to get to London and the rest of the world.

For now though, I think I will invest in some kind of stun gun or powerful air-gun, then I can shoot the wee chavers hiding from police helicopters in my garden. They’re still at it, he / she is still at large! :)

Was in the same boat as you mate. Paying a fortune to live in London and getting pissed off with the place (the people, the hassle, the expense). I'm now in Aylesbury which is relatively cheap . It's located in some gorgeous countryside. I have enough pubs to last me a lifetime :) Oh, and it's 30-40mins from the North Circular down the A41 (which has a brand new stretch of road).

Its not just London.

It happens down here too.

We have a Helicoptor, and a plane, the plane is wierd it has a huge wingspan and can almost hover. Its nice a quiet though.

When our helicoptor was first bought it was attacked with petrol bombs on its pad, and badly damaged, tut, tut....

Nice one James, I'm Aylesbury born and bred and was going to suggest it. A hefty advantage of commuting from here is that Aylesbury is the end of the Chiltern line, you always get your choice of seat on the train. Shouldn't forget the Subaru dealership.

Guess what I live opposite? Yep - The Subaru dealership!

Grantham, its on the main line which runs straight to London Kigs cross in 1hr 15 I think it is, not a bad ride. then u can use st pancreas to get anywhere else u wish :) job done, grantham is in the middle of the countryside with plenty of bars to drink in :) on a 20 minute drive to Lincoln City centre, 30mins to Nottingham, shed loads of country roads and lots of golf courses :) plus the property prices aint too expensive :)

You could try, Herts, beds or bucks, guess I'm suggesting the home counties. All have good rail links into London.

Guess where I'm going on saturday, Yep the dealership. Small world aint it. I used to drive past Adams everyday when I worked in Aylesbury.

I wouldn't suggest living in Aylesbury itself but maybe Wendover. The Chiltern Line is a blessing and also runs through Haddenam and Thame.

Thame is really nice and also just off the M40.

Don't get much of that sort of nonsense down here, really quite peaceful except sometimes when the holiday makers lose their brains, and their fast food which they had earlier. We just ignore all that anyway.

Last place I would want to go back to is London anyway. When I go to visit my relatives near there I find I am looking forward to getting back to a civilised part of England.

Don't get me wrong I do love it in the city, and if I lived in the sticks, I know I would be bored a lot. It's just the general stress, because there are so many people trying to live in such a reletively speaking small space. Driving is enough to test a bishops patience, commuter journeys and the tube can be just as bad.

I just can't see myself doing it for ever, especially at such a premium, knowing I could live elsewhere and have more toys! :)

Ideally I want my own house with its grounds, to build a large kart track, and get meself a stupidly fast gearbox kart! :D Much better than an xbox ;)

Dunno why I started this thread really, I was surfing scoobynet and had a sudden Neurotic exception to the amount of stress I had been subjected to that day culminating in being annoyed by a very loud, low flying helicopter and lots of noisey police cars as I just got in!

Well the thing you find is that you don't have to get bored at all in the country. You just find different hobbies that you could not follow in a big town and are actually far more interesting and enjoyable anyway.

You also have the very great advantage of living in cleaner air and also the pleasure of looking at nice scenery every day. The comparative peace is priceless and also the crime levels are very much lower. It's a pleasant surprise to find that you seem to be on a friendly basis with more people and there is a lot be said for that.

It's also good to be able to drive on local roads as you said without being tied up in nose to tail traffic.

I come from close to London and have never regretted my decision to get out of that rat race and into my present environment.

Lived in Battersea for some years when I was young enough to cope with the stresses and thoroughly enjoyed London. Then the kids came along and it seemed time to get out. Swapped a terraced house in litter-strewn-dog-mess-on-pavements-nowhere-to-park-dodgy-after-dark area for 4 bed detached in 1/3 acre in village outside Horsham in Sussex. People actually said good morning and you could send the kids to the local shop without worrying. The joy of leaving London traffic remains. Still commuted to London for a while although I think the southern home counties have a poor deal on commuting (very slow) compared to Herts/Bucks etc. Still some decent countryside in Surrey area with Guildford offering good service to Waterloo. Now in situation that I am close enough to get to London if I need but if I want to go and sit on the beach it's 40 minutes away. DL

St Helens is the place to be - greenbelt on three sides (liverpool's on the other cant have everything)...
It has been likened to Monaco by visitors who marvel at the boats in the pond on Taylor park and the casino's such as William Hills, Tote and Done Bookmakers. The town is stooped in 150 years of glass making history and tours of estates where interbreeding is rife are available at no charge. Marvel at the high volume of teenage mums and the random scattering of shopping trolleys around the town.
Enjoy the warm welcome of local bars where the traditional greeting "Who you effin lookin at merrrt" is commonplace.
Yes come to St Helens a place of hopes, dreams and wonder. Where no crime is a crime if Big Daz from Derbyshire Hill says its OK.
