POWER LOSS-MY03 WRX PPP-Please help!
In the last few days, my car has lost power, I mean that 'turbo kick' you get at around 3000 revs has gone. At first, I thought it was the warm, humid weather. The car feels almost like there some kind of restriction with the turbo boost? Tonight, I went for a long drive out of town where the outside temp dropped to 18 degrees. I put my foot to the floor hard and its just not right, that noticeable PPP turbo boost is not there. I called Cheam Motors earlier and they put it down to the humid weather, and suggested I wait a few days until it cools down, and if the problem's still there, then book it in, but i'm going to call tomorrow again to book it in. Anyone got any ideas what could be the problem? I always use Optimax, the water temp gauge is normal, car starts and sounds normal, ive got a Green filter element and PPP, thats it! Please help if you can, all advice and suggestions gratefully received, as always!

How long has it been going on? Could be a combo of the weather and a bad tank of fuel
|
Dodgy fuel? I have lost the kick a few times, but rudimentary performance tests revealed that I only imagined there to be a reduction in power. The kick returned on changing fuel, I find a mix of Esso super and Optimax is best for mine.
|
Oh... and for that reason (dodgy fuel), I rarely fill the tank completely when I'm around home, perferring to half-fill.

Make sure the handbrake isnt on! :D
With the strange weather we've been having I've noticed a big variation in power too. These turbos really dont like warm weather. Get yourself another tank of fuel and rag the arse off it to see if that clears it. If its still happening then get it in to the dealer and they can run some basic tests to see if you are fuelling and boosting correctly. |
bizzarely, and i kid you not, mine has felt noticeably faster the hotter its got.
Work that one out. |
Heard about this before could be the air filter (oil coated)
The oil sucked of the air filter can coat the MAF in a nice film of oil.... not good! Buggers up fuel to air ratio and totally destroys performance! Just a thought? Plums. |
