Anyone know of a good performance sport cat downpipe?

As above !

Changes to MoT methods prompting this question.

Anyone?

Much easier to weld a decent sports cat into a stock mid-section - better for performance 'cos it moves the restriction further from the turbo, better for you 'cos it's dead easy to swap :)

www.tezet.ch for hi-flow cats, but any decent muffler place will also do them.

Will it pass the MoT? A bolt-in sport cat is on my mind, but will it burn correctly so far from the turbo and give good emmisions?

They pass Swiss yearly and roadside emission tests no problems, as does the OE centre (with cat) and downpipe one smacked out......... allegedly :D

Emission tests here are done warm, the d/p cat would only be required for a cold emissions test, if at all.

Richard

Edited to add: some people even weld a fake bulge into their decat d/p's, then wrap it and tell officers they did it to manage heat better. That's probably illegal too.

never had a problem with the tsl thunder cat

was told it was quite good when the car was being mapped

I agree with Richard but if I was you my choice would be a Prodrive downpipe with 200cells catalyst.

Thought this thread had 'died'!
Is 200 cell better than most?
Does the D/P have an open neck/dual pipe feature for obvious reasons?

What are the changes to the MOT? I run a full decat on my STi3 but stick on a standard centre section for the test, will the changes affect this?

You will find that a 100 cell cat will flow a lot better than a 200 cell.

Ian

Edited to say..... that they still come with a open mouth.

tsl thunder cat are vgood

Milltek do various types:
http://www.millteksport.com/hiflow.sports.cats.cfm

The STi PPP d/pipe is one of Millteks BTW

Flow through the CAT is not only dependant on the cell type but also its size. If you can fit a wide cat canister in the d/pipe space and have good inlet/outlet tapers then it'll flow as good as a decat - until it starts to break up.

Blackthorn Auto catalysts do 100 and 200 cell catalysts about half the price of some other people. I can't remember the web address, but I am sure google could find. They wanted about £230 for a cat suitable for 500hp without restriction (big).

Firstly, thanks as ever for all the info. Have contacted the Companies.
Kevin, the MoT change is simply that if you fail the exhaust test they cannot print an MoT. There soon will be no MoT books.
The emmissions test result is linked to the Certificate printer.

I douby that the Stiv3 centre section will clean things enough to get a pass(?)

I thought they were maybe tightening the emissions limits - my car has passed the emissions MOT test for the last 2 years by fitting the standard centre cat (think it's actually a UK one). That's with the HKS decat d/pipe and a scoobysport back box.

Thundercat Downpipe, not cheap by any means, but has not affected my perfromance! LOL.
