what's the best way to get a quick but mechanically sympathetic launch?
 

as above really, want to go back to santa pod soon to see my improved time (hopefully) now the cars been mapped.

thing is, last time i was a bit of an animal with the car and don't really want to destroy it this thime round.

so, seeing as i didn't get a good time (14.24) last time round driving what i thought was the best way, what's a good comprimising start for overall speed but not in the way it'll fook your car?

this is all a contradiction in terms...

for a fast start the car technique is crude. To do it consistantly with good results is very difficult.

On my Sti v3 @ 314 bhp, stock 5 speed, AP Organic and stock flywheel, Kumho V70 17 x 205 x 40 semi slick tyres, I hold a constant blipping of the throttle to about 4500 in the dry to 5000 and dump the clutch. I mean dump it. Bang.

Crude, yes, but you get wheelspin to relieve the shock to the trans.

Been doing this for 2 1/2 years now in hill climbing the car, a drag race with bends involved(!)
I can cover the standing start/64 feet marker in 2.07 seconds, remember there is no traction compound on a hill climb start, just a build-up of other's rubber.

i tend to hold the revs at about 4.5 - 5 k. i apply the handbrake with my thumb holding the button in, whilst the clutch is juuuuuuuust biting. similar to 911 - DUMP! grab second rapido and your away! :d

all pretty much the same in essence, i get wheel spin also and the car is modified to over 300 bhp. i run an excedy clutch.

its down to personal technique i guess.

thanks for the replies guys:). fairly similar to how i launched last time TBH, MASSIVE kick up the arse then away:D. do remember thinking at the time that things must be getting very strained as i only had a chirp from the tyres and no wheelspin, guessing the next weak link in the chain is clutch/gearbox/driveshafts?

i've seen the clutch holding technique on videos before, surely this must fry your clutch at those revs?:eek: i've only got a lowly std one and having covered 40k i think a trip to the pod will finish it off.

oh well, **** happens, best go and look up the price for a replacement clutch ;):D

I sense a group buy on clutches coming up ;)

DO NOT hold it with the clutch biting and handbrake. 4500rpm and clutch biting equals cooking clutch, been there done that.

hold revs at 4500 to 5000, and fast release of the clutch is the one thats worked for me on the 2litre and 5speed. You can have revs higher if you like, just need to be a little more progressive with the clutch release.
