Power FC in a MY98 Impreza

Hi:

I'm interested in buy a used PowerFC for my Impreza turbo MY98, but I have some questions, so if anyone could help me...

1.- Is there any other way to control the PowerFC rather than the hand held?

2.- I read the power FC is for the JDM version of the car. So, Is really plug and play for a export Impreza?

3.- Does the unit come with a base map?

Thanks in advance

Regards

be carefull when buying a 2nd hand power fc as they are year specific, they are not plug and play for the uk car but its only a couple of wires to change :)

ive read that the unit does come with a few base maps but i think you will need the commander to access these :)

Andy F is an expert with these, so hopefully he can give a comprehensive answer.

I've done some research and as far as I can see:

1) The handheld gives you access to monitor/change some parameters on the fly, but I don't know of an alternate controller - I assume the initial mapping is done via a laptop.

2) There are different model PowerFCs for different classics, one up to MY96, one for MY97-98 and another for 99+. they have different socket configs, and I assume other changes to match the model years. It's the maps that matter with regards to installation for JDM or UK cars as far as I can tell- so long as it's mapped for UK fuel you should be OK.

3) The units do come with base maps, but I imagine they are set up for JDM vehicles with higher RON fuel than is available in the UK. You'd need to get a specific set of maps set up that work harmoniously with your other mods for best results. It might also be worth looking at the Apexi boost controllers that work alongside the ECU. I think theres a basic one and the AVC-R, which gives more configurable boost control through the rev range.
