Er think he means the EK9 civic, not the latest MPV shape...
Not sure on sites dedicated etc, but this is an interesting article :) http://www.honda.org.uk/honda_integr...ic_type_r.html |
yup Im after an EK9 - which I cannot seem to find anywhere - well except Japanese websites
What was the UK domestic model equivalent? Oh gosh I just read that article- It seemed quite off putting |
There was no UK equivalent - the closest was the VTi (and that's not very close at all).
Don't be put off by that article, head over to forum.hondarevolutions.com and have a chat with a few of the owners there. There's also a guy on here who used to run a tuned one before he discovered real driving and got an elise ;) |
You can get the engines to rev to silly numbers, some chip comanies I've seen don't set a limit!
10k is easily obtainable! |
I owned one for 4 happy years what do you want to know?
That article is a load of tosh, very 1 sided. |
Why not just get a DC2? :D

As already stated, Civic Type R's are a mental little car, but there isn't much difference between those and the ITR (DC2), most would probably say the Teg is a better car. However, it's just less hassle, Tegs were imported as UK-Spec cars, they're down in price now, and you can track the service history and make sure you get one that has had all the work done.
At the end of the day, when buying a grey car, especially a vtec that rev's so highly and gets driven hard, you're putting a lot of faith in the importers. You've no real way of knowing the history, and even if you speak / read japanese, you've no way of knowing the car hasn't got fake documents. There are plenty of people that do buy imports and have no problems, but why risk it unless you have to. Vtec's especially Type 'R's are renowned for their reliablity even when ragged, however, they're still engines, they still go wrong, and they need proper servicing, I would not want an imported VTEC, and I have never seen a standard old type Civic Type R, I saw one on autotrader not so long ago, with the carbon fibre bonnet like the photo you showed, but it was well spec'd up, spec'd up in japan then imported - all dodgey IMO! If you do get one, do your homework, find out the correct servcing times, VTECs are a pretty complex engines, and if serviced properly they will last, but like any other they'll be a world of pain if they don't. I think they need a cambelt 70k odd miles this is vitally important, check all this stuff out with the Honda Revolutions boys, I posted a link earlier so did someone else, they know there stuff in there, and you'll get all the specific advice you need. |
