419 Flash Mob!
 

For those who don't know, 419 refers to the Nigerian advance fee fraud. You may have received a spam mail from one of these, where they need your help to recover $22,000,000 & will give you 10% for your help. Many people are taken in by this & it's a serious criminal fraud.

A new Internet sport has been created which involves baiting a 419 scammer & then annoying the hell out of them. If they're writing to you, then they can't scam some old lady out of her life savings. You can check out some info here: http://419eater.com/

Once a month, the 419 Flash Mob makes an International mass visit to selected scam websites, either fake banking websites used in 419 scams or fake lottery sites. The effect if these mass visits is to zap the scammers available bandwidth for the whole month in one day & shut them down. It also has the effect of convincing less honorable hosting sites to shut down the scam websites.

The 8th International Flash mob takes place Sunday August 1st. All you need to do, if you want to help out, is to load a web page from Artists Against 419. This will continually reload images from selected fraudulent criminal websites. The 8th Flash Mob will run for 48 hours from 01:00 on Sunday. The page can be left running overnight on your pc.
