question about motor race engineering training courses....
 

does anyone know if you can get a traing course on motor race engineering or the likes, that you can do from home? i'd really like to be able to start modding performance cars as a job, but i can't get the time to go to a college or university to do it, so a home one would be ideal. even if it was basic stuff, i wouldn't care, at least it's a bit of paper to say i'm qualified in something to the above description. i'm sure someone must know something???

without the practical experience i doubt its worth anything.my bro is a formula one engineer,strated at the bottom and worked up.
Home study.....dont even waste your time.

it's only because i have to do it without the years and years of experience to help me. don't get me wrong, it's not as though i know sweet FA about motor mechanics, but i want to be confident enough in taking on a job i've never done before....if you get where i'm coming from?:)

It about being in the right place at the right time unfortunately.Most Race engineering courses are aimed at youngsters and probably only 10% of them actually get a job working in their chosen profession.

As far as I know the only place doing courses is Brooklands college in Surrey but dont quote me(I had a lad working with me on work experience who was there)

Not to upset you but I was asked to help support a Paris/Dakar Raid next year at the weekend so like I say its just about luck.

It might be worth joining a local motorsport club though and if you are handy with the spanners some of the other members will let you help out.But dont expect to be paid :O

Myerscough College near Preston do a motorsport course, but i don't think they do it as a home study type course.

Seems someone's a little over protective there. Ahhh Bless. :D:D

As Paulr said, you need the basic ability to use spanners etc with a bit of finesse and then get a job with a team and learn the specialised bits as you go. A keen attitude will help as much as anything.

with helping out with some people that are doing some kind of motorsports, i totally agree. it does make sense to do this and no experience is better than hands on, but i've tried. these guys usually have a full time job too and to get to wherever in a decent time and back again would be murder. i'm 20 miles north of glasgow and not a lot of guys near to me do this sort of thing. there is 3 scoobs that do rallying and the nearest one isn't interested and the others are a bit far........am gonna make a point of askin mind you:) i'll look into the colleges that are mentioned earlier though. thanks
