Photoshop help

I've been processing some close-up photographs of stamps, for a website.

Some of the images are darker towards the bottom than the top, bottom further from the light.

Is there anyway i can lighten the bottom part, without leaving a sharp contrast (like you get when selecting the bottom part and doing lighten).

Andy,

Look at using the gradient tool to apply a mask and the simply use this mask to brighten or darken the image.

I.e. you will want a gradient running black at the top down to white at the bottom. when you adjust the brightness, the effect will be more pronounced over the white areas of the mask, less so over the gray bit in the middle and none at all where the mask is black.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Ian

Thats exactly how I would do it too. Might take a few goes to get it right but should do the job.

Thankyou, I'll have a look at it tonight. Will save redoing a lot of them!

Or take better photos of the stamps wich is far more easier than mucking about with masks and gradients in PS if you don't know what you're doing :D
