New Road Angel and the Law

Been on to Blackspot who make the Road Angle to see if the new law changes that are planned affects them.

This is there reply:-

Hi Jason

Firstly, please rest assured Road Angel is fine.

Thursday and Friday were quite exciting for us! Since we launched in 2002 there has been constant speculation surrounding the ‘radar’ detector market. This was started by a court case between the DTi (Department for Trade and Industry) and a radar detector manufacturer. The case, which is still ongoing, was not based upon the use of the product but the fact that the huge emissions from some radar detectors interfere with other devices – in their case Sky Satellite boxes!

Following this investigation, the DfT (Department for Transport) wish to ‘clear-up’ the industry at the same time.

Our understanding is "The Department for Transport is looking at ways to outlaw these systems because it believes they interfere electronically with the operation of speed cameras".

Whilst GPS devices are approved there is some confusion over laser, brought on by the use of diffusers and jammers. As you know, Laser detection is passive and does not interfere with any police devices.

Road Angel has no emissions and is fully Vehicle Conformity Approved.

I hope this answers your questions and would have no issues surrounding the purchase of a new road angel.

Best Regards

Dave Clark
