Advice on WR1 driving light upgrade or go for bulb upgrade

I am looking for more light at night.

Do I get the bulbs uprated on the main beam (I have already upgraded the dip beam to Philips plus) to something like the PIAA Platinum White 9005.

Or,

Get the new WR1 driving kit fitted.

What is better per £ cost?

Any WR1 owners, what are they like?

Anybody that has uprated the main beam - have you noticed much difference and what did you use?

Please help someone in the dark.

Well, just looking at it theoretically. the driving lights have to be better although more costly.

Even if they only have 55W lamps in, that's an extra 110W on the road.

If it's the HID kit, I'd say, bite the bullet and go for it. If you drive the "ultimate Impreza" have the ultimate lights too!

Edited to say: or you can have my '98 classic with uprated Morettes and HID driving lights from Scoobysport, and I'll have your WR1 and put up with the poor lights:D:

sorry, just to clarify I have an 03 STI not a WR1.

I did type it in the original heading but did not notice it was missing.

The driving lights on the WR1 are great. Driving down a tree lined country lane last night i hit the switch and it was like daylight again!

i've got a classic with PIAA driving lights on it and its totally transformed my main beam, not sure if this helps you though mate.

yes it does, thanks,

I called into my local dealer today and they want around £600 to fit the PIAA wr1 lamps to my STI - oooouuucccchhh.

but, I think I may still go ahead as I am limited to Subaru dealer parts only as the car is leased and they won't let me use anything else.

£600!! thats expensive, mine cost £260 as a complete kit which came with everything, the dealer tried to tell me that it was difficult to fit so did i want them to do it which would have brought the bill up to £410!!, done it myself though and found it all very simple, as stated though mate mines a classic so the prices probably vary for newer models.

just checked the other thread mate and PIAA's for a WRX03 are £325 for a WRX and £444.02 for a STI and that includes vat

But don't forget that there are, apparently, TWO kits for new-age: HID and Halogen.

Perhaps you've been quoted for HID? (Which IMHO, you should be looking at anyway:D: )

I got the driving lights on my 03 STI and they are superb!

Look better than the STI bits too :)
