Yes, as before Impreza's ever existed I was after a Legacy Turbo - which at the time were almost unheard of.

In the early days, 99% of the board wouldn't even considered a Scoob until it gained it's profile through being a rally car. Now it's reputation precedes it.

Pretty strange reason to buy a car, the rally car hardly represents the road car in real terms. Agree with David, standard car is sh!t!

It was the test drive that made me want to buy the car - not sure it could be called a "sack of ****" in standard form tbh. :)

Guess it depends on what other cars youve owned. For me the standard car was far better than anything else I had ever driven (although I did get my WRX PPP'd) :P

To clarify, standard UK car is sh!t, imo. Can't speak for Jap models.

What would you consider is the minimum that needs to be done in order for it not to be sh!t?

Bought mine because as a child I liked rattles, and my car reminds me of my happy childhood, cos it rattles like a barsteward.

Compared to most cars it is great. Sure - it can be mightily improved but for the money - not much else has all its elements of practical, reliable, quick, etc etc.

I really cannot believe you believe the standard UK Turbo is a sack of s**t in standard form . What are you people used to Formula 1 cars? I own a standard UK 99 apart from a scooby sports exhaust and by far is the best car I have ever owned or driven. Bearing in mind I have driven quite a few cars from Fiestas to Cosworths to BMW'S. It might not be as quick as an Evo and yes it has body roll and the interior could be improved but what do you want for less than 10 grand. You've got a car that looks good (in my opinion) will hit 60 in less than 6 seconds, has 4 wheel drive for simply excellent handling, excellent reliability and sounds the bo***cks. End of story. Sorry as you can tell I love my Impreza!

I'm with PUDDERS, there was no other car i wanted and as standard i'm v happy with it but as always now iv'e got use to it i want to upgrade for more power better handling ect ect.. I can still beat most things on the road with price tags far far greater than mine so no i think that scoobs standard or not are the dogs.

I decided to test drive one following all the good press it was getting at the time (late '99) and was instantly hooked. I kept my car standard for a year or so, then added the PPP and a few other mods when I started to get bored. Three years later I've finally decided it's time for a change and have a JDM STI on order.

Sadly no, I love my rallying and I love my Impreza but I was lucky enough to get mine with compensation from an RTA in which I very nealy died, and what a feeling picking out the car I really wanted and paying cash for it too.:D

I'm on my second UK car now - performance is very good, in comparison to MOST other cars. My next car might be a JDM. but not for the performance differnece (which IMHO is negligable due to fueling differences between UK and Japan), but because of the price.

When I bought mine, I started looking for a new car in the February. I'd test driven any performance type cars I could get my hands on, including ITR, Saxo VTS, Ibiza cupra sport 16V, Golf GTi, Almera Gti, 306 GTi6 etc etc.

Wifey had vetoed £23000 for a 3 year old cossie escort, my first choice:(:

Whatever I bought HAD to have 4 seats too, as my lads were only 9 and 12, then.

I went to a Pug dealer to get a go in a 106 GTi, but the salesman lost interest in me when I wouldn't sign up for it there and then, without even a test drive.:mad: Dixons! Pah!

Evantually, I got talking to the sales manager, who, after asking what I really wanted, and learning that I was after performance, advised me to try out a Scoob, with the added advice; "make sure you can afford one before trying it, as after that, you won't want anything else."

He was right!

I bought mine as I wanted 4X4 Japanese Turbo power.

My heart will always be with the Nissan Pulsar GTIR but with a family and no way of getting the baby seat in the Pulsar I bought the Impreza.

The rally program for the GTIR was hit and miss to say the least and it never shone in competition but it doesn't stop me wanting another one.

Jap Vs UK. Buy an STI V5 for 12K or buy an MY00 UK for 10K. To get the UK to STi looks and power costs more than 2K. However I bought a UK as its by far the cheapest running costs wise including any other Jap turbo car you care to mention (EVO, GTIR, STi, WRX etc..)

those people on here calling the standard turbo a "sack of ****" are obviously complete tards and dont deserve to even post on here.

I brought my standard turbo for 13,000 with only 40,000 miles on it - its by far the best car i have ever owned, people compare it to cars that cost 3 times as much, which in my mind says it all.

What else can you buy for that price which is as good, you could always buy a brand new vauxhall astra lol

So just think about it before spreading ur sh*t everywhere

I bought mine cos I'd wanted one for years :)

I had a Clio 172 at the time and just wandered over to my local Scoob garage one saturday morning - turns out the sales manager there was the guy who sold me my clio 12 months (ish) before. 2 min chat with him he threw me the keys to a MY02 WRX and just said off you go have fun :D

I got back and simply said "I'll have one of those please with these mods" :D

maybe you consider yourself to be an above average driver but for the rest of us the standard car is perfectly good and despite having a few rattles can hardly be described as a sack of ****. the average driver is never going to reach the limits of the standard car on the road. understeer is built in for your average driver.
